Astanga yoga helps create focus by connecting breath, movement, and concentration. Through regular practice, the mind becomes calmer, stronger, and more present. It builds discipline, balance, and inner stability, helping you stay grounded not only on the mat, but also in everyday life.

The practice of peaceful awareness.

Ashtanga Yoga is not just movement, it’s a relationship between effort and ease.

In the Yoga Sutras, this is called sthira sukham asanam:
steadiness (sthira) and softness (sukha) existing at the same time.
We don’t just “work out”, we learn how to move between activation and rest.
Not forcing.
Not collapsing.
But meeting the moment through breath, repetition, and attention with both strength and surrender as we cultivate a peaceful way of being in the moment.

Ashtanga Yoga is a method for developing both strength and regulation.

The foundation is sthira sukham asanam — steadiness and ease within each posture. This is not theoretical; it is something we apply continuously in practice.

When there is too much effort, the body hardens and the breath becomes restricted. The nervous system shifts toward stress and reactivity.
When there is too much softness, the body loses structure and support, and attention drifts.

Neither creates stability.

Through consistent practice, we train the ability to balance activation and ease. The breath remains steady, the mind stays attentive, and the body works without excess tension. This is how the nervous system learns to regulate rather than oscillate between extremes.

This principle extends beyond the mat.
Excess force dominates and destabilizes.
Excess passivity cannot hold or sustain.

A functional system — whether in the body or in the world — requires both structure and adaptability.

Ashtanga Yoga teaches this directly:
apply effort where needed, release where possible, and maintain clarity in both.

You’re warmly invited to join one or all of the Yoga Technique & Q&A workshops (FREE)
Saturdays April 18, May 2 and
May 30 at 10.00 - 11.30
with Helena
These sessions are a chance to connect outside the Mysore room and explore different aspects of the practice together. We’ll begin with a short guided pranayama or seated practice, introduce the Sanskrit count and asana names to build familiarity with the rhythm of the practice, breath, and transitions, and from there open up for questions, technique, and discussion based on what’s present in the room.
You’re welcome to bring anything you’re curious about; postures, transitions, breath, or how to integrate the practice into daily life.

This is a collaborative and relaxed space, with no pressure or expectations, just an opportunity to explore and learn together.

Please let me know if you’d like to join, either by message or at the shala.

Practical details:
This session is free for students practicing at Mysore Yoga Cph.
Registration is required.

It feels deeply meaningful to once again welcome Petri Räisänen to Mysore Yoga Cph to share his practice and presence with us.

🗓 August 27–30, 2026
📍 Copenhagen

There is a quiet, grounded depth in the way Petri teaches, something that gently unfolds beyond technique and form. With great care and simplicity, he creates a space where the practice becomes a place of listening rather than striving. A space that invites softness, patience, and an honest connection to where we are, moment by moment.

His way of guiding holds a rare quality of steadiness and warmth, allowing each of us to explore the practice in our own time, without pressure. It’s not about achieving more, but about seeing more clearly. Feeling more deeply. And slowly returning to ourselves.

It is truly a joy, and a privilege, to open and hold this space for our community to come together in practice.

A small retreat in the middle of life 💛
