On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court revoked the constitutional right to an abortion, overruling nearly half a century of precedence. Make no mistake: this decision is a clear violation of bodily autonomy. The Court has opted to force births when a family may not be able to safely or responsibly raise a child, to drastically increase rates of child poverty and of infanticide, to mandate people to carry a fetus to term even if it kills them, and to – in sum – strip away individuals’ rights to their own bodies.

The choice to have or not have an abortion is entirely personal, and it is a choice that should be made between a patient and their doctor alone. Even in situations entirely unrelated to family planning, abortions are a lifesaving form of healthcare – for cases like ectopic pregnancies, treatments for some cancers, emergent surgeries, and countless other medical crises. The government has no business regulating citizens’ medical decisions.

Almost 50 years ago, the Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that the United States Constitution generally protects an individual’s right to an abortion – and while this decision did not bring about immediate and universal reproductive justice, it was a critical step in advancing rights for people of all sexes. But now, we are witnessing a regression in civil liberty that will have – and is already having – deadly consequences.

Already, nine U.S. states have banned all or nearly all abortions, most of which offer no exceptions whatsoever for r**e or in**st. At least 12 more states are almost certainly set to follow suit, affecting a total of 26.6 million women of reproductive age as well as some transgender men and non-binary individuals.

We cannot stand idly by while 30 million people are robbed of their basic rights. The most effective way to support reproductive rights at present is to donate to local abortion funds and independent clinics, especially in high-risk states where – as clinics are forced to shut down – the money will help transport people in need of an abortion to a state in which such lifesaving medical care is still legal (keepourclinics.org).

Do you want to contribute to the development of a new non-hormonal contraceptive?

We are currently recruiting cervical mucus donors in an around Copenhagen to accelerate the development of our contraceptive technology. The study is conducted in collaboration with the OB/GYN department at Herlev Hospital. It is uncomplicated and pain-free to donate ovulatory cervical mucus.

Increased educational attainment is an achievement for women that we are celebrating at Cirqle Biomedical this .

When the pill was introduced 1960, it wasn’t immediately available to all women. During the 60s and early 70s, US states began passing laws making the pill available to women from age 18.

Scientific studies have shown that access to the pill from age 18 is responsible for improved economic outcomes for women in the United States - particularly their education.

Increased educational attainment is a direct causal effect of access to the pill. From 1968 to 1979, contraceptive access increased women’s college enrolment in the 60s and 70s by near 12% and decreased their dropout rate by 35%.

In the last 60 years, contraceptives has empowered more women to finish their education. The increase in women’s academic accomplishments is a pivotal achievement for women in modern history.

In honour of Women’s History Month, we are celebrating women’s achievements that have been made possible by modern contraception.

When the pill was introduced in 1960, it was largely unavailable to unmarried women under age 21. Over the course of the 1960s and 70s, contraception was gradually made accessible to women aged 18-20.

Between 1970 and 1990, the increase in pill usage - made possible by accessibility from age 18 - is responsible for one third of the total increase of the share of women in professional careers, such as: law, medicine, dentistry and business administration.

Access to contraceptives in the last 60 years has empowered more women to progress their careers. The increase of women in the labour market is a pivotal achievement for women in modern history.

However, in the last 60 years there has been a fundamental lack in innovation in contraception. A new mechanism of action has not been developed since hormonal therapy was introduced. Despite being an effective way to prevent pregnancy, hormonal contraceptives carry some sizeable mental and physical health effects and risks, including depression, breast cancer and decreased general wellbeing.

Our team is working on a solution. OUI is a non-hormonal contraceptive with minimal side effects.

At Cirqle Biomedical we the status quo of contraception with OUI.

Today, we know that women using hormonal contraception are more likely to experience a lower overall sense of mental wellbeing and other side effects which negatively impact their physical and mental health. 49% of women prefer their contraceptive to be hormone-free, however only 14% currently use non-hormonal methods due to pain, inefficacy and inconvenience.

We are contributing to forging a gender equal world by creating OUI - a contraceptive that enables women to exercise their reproductive rights without compromising.

Happy International Women’s Day!

In the 1950s, groundbreaking innovation in contraception brought women highly effective methods of birth control such as the pill and the IUD. Being able to decide when and if to get pregnant has enabled women to protect their health, finish their education and contribute to the labour force. In other words, contraceptives empower women to shape their futures, which is fundamental for achieving gender parity.

However, it does not mean that the issue of birth control is solved. There has not been any fundamentally new method of contraception developed since hormonal therapy was introduced more than 60 years ago.

This is the reason we are bringing innovation back to contraception. OUI’s mucus engineering approach has demonstrated the first novel mechanism of action in contraception in 60 years.

We the status quo of contraception.

EU-Startups magazine has written an article about 10 promising femtech startups and guess what...Cirqle Biomedical is one of them! It's amazing to see that others find our project as exciting as we do, many thanks EU-Startups https://lnkd.in/gNWEEpT

Femtech startups have grown to become some of the hottest startups out there. Even the word Femtech is trending, although it stands for something that has been around for quite some time. For those who are not familiar with the lingo, femtech - short for “female technology” - are companies in th...
