Hawthorn frenzy at my place! The berries were gorgeous, ruby red& calling to me. I spent hours happily picking & thanking the tree (so calm after that), selecting best berries & making delicious treats from the generous hawthorn ♥️ its a heart-loving herb I consume many ways, with a family history of heart disease;this year I combine it in a honey syrup with blueberries, ginger& cinnamon; & I love it as an extract in brandy & local honey with spices (the best cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg from )& juicy pods; I am trying a blend with other heart herbs - linden, lemon balm, rose& oat tops (frozen from the summer harvest) in rum; also excellent oxymel with local apple cider vinegar& honey….

Feeling inspired by the beautiful heady roses in the garden now, red, dark & light pink all different and amazing- I have paired it with gorgeous juicy vanilla pods from and local honey from my favorite beekeeper ~ I look forward to enjoying this one in winter to remember the juicy days of summer 🩷🖤

I haven’t posted much, keeping my head down & tending the garden. I was inspired so here are August garden shots- I am so grateful for the generosity of the plants & I am keeping busy with harvesting & thanking the garden for its magic 😊1: mullein, vervain; 2: elecampane showing off; 3: hollyhocks, Japanese quince, sage, hops; 4: valerian, vervain, skullcap; 5+6+7: pumpkin, beans, sunflowers, cosmos; 8: too many to name! So pretty; 9: love these toothache plants ; 10: greenhouse tomatoes, nasturtiums, basil; 11: heat loving holy basil, lemongrass, lemon verbena and basils

Sunny afternoon making session to prep for the retreat with .citron at 😊 I made a gorse flower (velvety soft blossoms with gentle coconut smell vibes)& vanilla syrup with the best 🖤 & a lilac hibiscus vinegar & lilac sugar….yum aromas in my kitchen & so looking forward to the retreat 🏕️

Join me in the herb garden to dig up some roots and learn how to make your own preparations with them. We will share a warm tea & snack and talk about medicinal roots& hopefully you will get lots of inspiration for your winter medicine cabinet ☺️

Oxymels are a combination of vinegar and honey, tasty and full of medicine when infused with herbs. This one is an intuitive blend of herbs, balancing bitter, sweet& astringent, that I will call on in the winter months for immune system support & expectorant power- bee balm, anise hyssop, pink hyssop, sage, echinacea, calendula, rose, yarrow, elderberry & St. John’s wort with organic apple cider vinegar and a blob of the best local raw honey 🩷 You can make your own combinations and see what happens- I’ll taste this in a few weeks and find out!

Garden now ~ kind of under/out of control depending on my mood, but very pretty ;) some of the survivors of the slug onslaught- mullein, hops, squash, tomatoes (indigo rose & lucky tiger!), Basils, lemongrass, Japanese wineberries & vervain; enjoying the garden pickings for meals & drying herbs for the coming season

Green! Despite the rather uninspiring weather the gardens green abundance is uplifting 😊 yes it’s messy and over planted (thinning out plants is hard ok), it’s so pretty and calm. Here we see self down phacelia & calendula alongside grey peas, Japanese wine berries going bananas with self down mullein (also Pilates ball just in case), mange tout peas, oats - not ripe yet, Carlin peas & borage, back garden gigantic elecampane making all the other plants look tiny. Many jobs in the garden but sometimes I remember to enjoy it for its own sake 🌹💚

Recent moments ~ crazy purple sage flowers are luminous in the back garden; chickweed has been luscious so I made pesto; sea of red clover; lavender & chamomile foot bath when the kids weren’t home (legs covered in mosquito bites…)
