How did you spend your Saturday? I spent mine on an excursion to a waterfall called Cascada Nicolas Agua Dulce hidden off the beaten path. I went with my friend Jorge Salazar who is with Proturisco, an organization that offers an alternative to the typical tours with visits to local Ecuadorian communities, what they call community tourism. Jorge and I both believe in giving back to the people of Ecuador while they share their lifestyle, gastronomy and amazing natural beauty. After a tough hike we were rewarded with a magnificent waterfall and pool. Hiking back (sometimes straight up!) through all kinds of fruit trees and vegetation we were greeted with a truly organic meal cooked by these beautiful women. Our approach at Quinta Oasis is based on Convivencia, to be in community with the people who live here. We are not a resort, hotel or hosteria. We are a private quinta where you experience the real Ecuador. Proturisco and Quinta Oasis will partner to offer our guests a glimpse into the natural beauty of Ecuador, it's people and food and lifestyle while giving back to the communities in rural Ecuador. A quick update on Oasis. Now that the rains are subsiding we've been busy fixing our road and getting ready to plant more flowers and trees. Come take a walk with me and check out what's new.

Community Fund Project: Water

This shows the street where we donated the pipes to have potable water installed in our community for our neighbors. Previously they used donkeys and water tanks to fill their cisterns. A short video hello as I travel through Ecuador to my property #OasisInEcuador . This is the Luna Huasi finca or eco lodge outside of Puerto Quito in Ecuador. My partner's family has owned and stewarded large tracts of rainforest, some virgen, for generations. Soon LunaHuasi will be open to visitors. A trip back to Quito. Walking around we came upon this couple making freshly squeezed orange juice. I could almost taste the tree itself it was SO fresh! Beats soda any day! And it cost a dollar for a small bottle. Which I drank with gusto. A maestro at work

Our maestro is laying the tiles in our guest bathroom using the traditional ways. Looking forward to the finished product! We are hiring only local artisans. We appreciate their craft and by providing work we are able to help those living nearby. To date we have contributed about $20K to the local community by hiring local artisans and buying locally using resources here. One week of work will feed a family for three weeks. That is having a significant impact on this small community. Not to mention the self confidence and self esteem that they feel when their work is appreciated.
