EEAI is proud to have received recognition, facilitated by the MAD Foundation and granted by King Charles III, for our efforts in Ukraine.

During our assessment mission at the beginning of this year in Ukraine, we identified the need for blood group testing and access to battlefield blood transfusions to reduce fatalities and increase survival.

EEAI presented a comprehensive academic piece with recommendations, peer-reviewed by colleagues from WHO and other professionals in different faculties managing Emergency Medicine.

After intensive planning with our local and international partneres e.g. Eldoncards , we developed and presented the concept of saving lives on battlefields to the Ukrainian authorities. We brought together the main stakeholders, resulting in the implementation of projects by our partners in Ukraine Operation SafeDrop under the leadership of Toby Illingworth, leading to the establishment of the largest walking blood bank.

This significant success was of such importance that it was presented to His Majesty, King Charles III, by Toby Illingworth from the MAD Foundation. The project, implemented by Operation SafeDrop in Ukraine, is now saving lives. If you want to learn more about walking blood banks, EEAI is your partner in the field.

We are glad to announce that the identified shortage of blood in Ukraine has been mitigated by a concept EEAI planned for Ukraine and our International and Local partners have implemented and launched yesterday. A walking blood bank with a software that enables donors to be requested when they are needed. Especially in countries with no storage facilities. The human body is the best storage.

Evacuation successfull. We arrived this morning in Berlin. A few medical incidences during the transfer, but our medical team was able to manage. A full medical team from the joint NGO consortium working on behalf of the senate of Berlin was waiting for us. The patients were triaged on the basis of our jointly established system and the accompanying relatives including the cat were given given accommodation, either in the medical department or the refugee accommodation. We had an exellent lunch, tea, coffee, dinner and a shower. Thank you for the warm welcome, professionalism and hospitality. Solidarity at its best. We are already planning the next group. We are on our way back to Ukraine. Please support us with donations.

Ambulance Training in Ukraine

The last week has been particularly tiring for all, the constant Air Raid alarms and time spend in the shelter have been challenging but used for theory classes and assignments.
EEAI Ambulance Care Attendant training is going well and our first group of four learners or two crews are on the way to competency and supervised placement. They are all highly motivated.
If you think you can do that role or want to learn the skills of an Ambulance Care Attendant, please get in touch. If you want to donate for someone to be able to have the training please donate here.

On the 6th of February this 29 years old male patient was hit by debris fragments from an artillery gr***de. His right arm is severely injured, temporary treatment prevented him from amputation. A Hospital in Germany has confirmed his admission on arrival for reconstructive limb surgery. The regional government advised to transfer directly to city of treatment. Now we have to arrange permission from the Military Command for him to get permission to leave Ukraine to receive definite care and rehabilitation. We will continue to report on his case. For confidentiality and safety reasons we are only publishing pictures without identifying data.
Please continue to support us, we need your financial support.

For safety reasons we have not posted pictures from our mission and trip yet. Images contain meta data that can be used for targeting.
We have met with public officials from different departments such as health, refugee council, police, foreign legions NGOs and individuals. We also met with the authorities in Poland and Germany.
They are working continuously to assist the people of Ukraine. We are working between Kyiv and Lviv. From our assessment we have learned that the main problem is the missing foreign NGOs on the ground, communication, training and coordination appears a key factor. Many local NGO partners are not familiar with the systems used in relief work and disaster management. Until we have obtained the required funding, we continue to assist with medical assessments for refugees, assisting with Non Foot Items and coordination.
Unfortunately a major NGO from Europe has received the general contract and funding (75% EU/ 25% Germany) but they are still lacking with the finer details.
Receiving facilities are complaining informally of poor coordination mechanism. In total only 1200 causalities or people with disabilities have been evacuated to Germany.
However our logistics plan with regards to evacuation, transport, admission rights to Hospitals, and the use of Ambulances are in place. Each medical evacuation from Kyiv to Germany cost about €8000.
Individual initiatives from western countries are operational in the informal relief sector.
The loyalty of the citizens to their country is incredible, even facing death, abuse, starvation, having no potable water, they do not wish to leave.

EEAI has arrived in Lviv, Ukraine. We have met some partners today and different stake holders. The coming weekend will be busy, many individual volunteers arriving at the border, with jeeps, Pick-up Trucks, in field uniforms. Many of them civilians.
They are well equipped and willing to defend the freedom of Ukraine, Europe, and the western world. What have we learned so far; A major problem is that many offices are working remotely and there is not always a delegation in county. Expertise is missing. Short term actions from the European Union, United Nations and agencies are welcome but not enough or lacking in consistency. Most NGOs work independently and without the usual funding from agencies. Donations are running low with most of them.

The task at hand appears of larger size than initially expected and a review of plan is taking place at this moment. Physically disabled people, mentally impaired, elderly, people with war injuries, soldiers or civilians have not received definite care. They are occupying hospital beds as the country is not set up for rehabilitation, treatment, or housing. Disabled or wheelchair access does not exist. Families do not wish to leave a parent or grandparent behind; they would rather risk their own lives or the lives of their children and grandchildren. We want to help them, to move them together, to safety in the European Union.
These people need our help and your help.
