World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and liver cancer.

The theme for 2025: Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down calls for urgent action to dismantle the financial, social and systemic barriers – including stigma – that stand in the way of hepatitis elimination and liver cancer prevention.

Chronic hepatitis B and C silently cause liver damage and cancer – despite them being preventable, treatable, and, in the case of hepatitis C, curable. The theme emphasizes the need to simplify, scale up, and integrate hepatitis services – vaccination, safe injection practices, harm reduction and especially testing and treatment – into national health systems.

The campaign is a reminder that we must act now to expand access, integrate care, and end hepatitis as a public health problem by 2030.

📌 "How to Protect Yourself at Work if You’re Living with HIV"

🔒 You are not required to disclose your HIV status to your employer.
⚖️ Medical information is your private matter. In Estonia, as in the entire EU, your health data is protected by strict confidentiality laws.
Your employer is not allowed to:
— demand an HIV test result (except in law enforcement or specific medical fields);
— share your medical information with third parties without your consent;
— fire you based on your diagnosis.

💬 What the law says:
▪️ Discrimination based on health status is prohibited.
▪️ GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) forbids the collection of "sensitive" data without your explicit consent.
▪️ Exceptions apply only when there is a direct risk to others (e.g., work involving blood), but even in such cases — automatic disqualification is not allowed!

👷 You CAN work in any profession
There is no scientific basis for excluding people living with HIV from the workplace.
❌ HIV is not transmitted through:
🤝 handshakes, ☕ shared dishes, 😷 sneezing, 🧼 shared toilets.

💡 Important facts:
— Sweat, tears, and saliva do not contain infectious levels of the virus.
— Blood contact is only a risk if it enters a wound or bloodstream.
— Even in such cases, the risk is very low if PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is used promptly.

🛡 How to protect yourself:
Know your rights — speaking with a lawyer or NGO can make a real difference.
Keep records — if you experience discrimination, document it in writing.
Don’t give in to pressure — you are not obligated to discuss your health with colleagues.
Reach out for support — EHPV is here to help you emotionally.

🤲 You are not a danger. You are a professional.
Your health does not make you less. It makes you more mindful of life.

🌈 Spent an unforgettable evening at a Gay Midsummer Party tucked away in the countryside! 🌳✨ The peaceful setting, vibrant energy, and amazing people made it a truly magical celebration. I was also grateful for the chance to provide HIV testing—supporting health, awareness, and connection within our community. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of love, inclusion, and togetherness. Here’s to more moments like this! ❤️

🌈 This weekends Vikerruum was Fun! 🌈

While the music played and the dance floor lit up, it was beautiful to see our community come together in a space that was joyful, safe, and full of love. 🏳️‍🌈✨

Throughout the night, we offered free HIV testing—because caring for our health is part of how we care for each other.

💖 Big thanks to everyone who showed up—and a special shoutout to oohaldjad, who helped ensure the party was safe and supportive for everyone.

Let’s keep building spaces that celebrate who we are and support one another every step of the way.

Progressiivsel festivalil Tartu Genialistide klubis sai kuulata põnevat paneeldiskussiooni teemal "18 kuud abieluvõrdsust Eestis", kus LGBT kogukonna liikmed jagasid oma rõõme ja muresid. Rõõmustame edusammude üle, mis on toonud LGB inimestele suure sammu lähemale võrdsema ühiskonna suunas ning jätkame võitlust trans inimeste õiguste eest. 31 мая 2025 года, с 13:00 до 16:00, на Башенной площади (Tornide väljak) в Таллине Эстонская сеть людей, живущих с ВИЧ (EHPV), организует бесплатное, быстрое и конфиденциальное тестирование на ВИЧ в рамках празднования Tallinn Pride.
Мы приглашаем всех желающих — независимо от пола, возраста, ориентации— пройти экспресс-тест на ВИЧ и гепатит С. Процедура занимает всего несколько минут и проходит в уютной и дружественной атмосфере.
Почему это важно?
Потому что знание своего ВИЧ-статуса — это не только забота о собственном здоровье, но и вклад в здоровье всего сообщества. Современная терапия позволяет людям, живущим с ВИЧ, вести полноценную жизнь, а при эффективном лечении — не передавать вирус другим (U=U: неопределяемый = непередающий).

Get Tested with Pride: EHPV Invites You for Free Testing During Tallinn Pride
On May 31, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00, at Tornide väljak (Tower Square) in Tallinn, the Estonian Network of People Living with HIV (EHPV) is offering free, quick, and confidential testing for HIV and Hepatitis C as part of the Tallinn Pride celebrations.
We warmly welcome everyone — regardless of gender, age, orientation — to stop by and take a rapid test. The process takes just a few minutes and is carried out in a cozy and friendly environment.
Why is this important?
Because knowing your HIV status is not just about protecting your own health — it’s also an act of care for the whole community. Thanks to modern treatment, people living with HIV can lead full, healthy lives. And with effective therapy, the virus becomes undetectable and untransmittable (U=U: Undetectable = Untransmittable).

31. mail 2025 kell 13:00–16:00 kutsub Eesti HIV-positiivsete Võrgustik (EHPV) koostöös Tervise Arengu Instituudi, Seksuaaltervise Kliiniku ja Lääne-Tallinna Keskhaiglaga tasuta ja konfidentsiaalsele HIVi ja C-hepatiidi kiirtestimisele Tornide väljakul Tallinnas, mis on osa Tallinn Pride'i tähistamisest.
Ootame kõiki — sõltumata soost, vanusest ja orientatsioonist - astuma läbi ja tegema kiirtesti. Protseduur võtab vaid mõned minutid ja toimub hubases, sõbralikus õhkkonnas.
Miks see on oluline?
HIV-i saab tõhusalt ravimitega vaos hoida ja õigeaegne haiguse avastamine ning ravi aitab säilitada hea elukvaliteedi aastateks.

2024. a augustis, aasta aega pärast seda, kui abielu muutus Eestis de jure sooneutralseks, viidi LGBTIQ seas läbi küsitlus kväär-partnerluse kohta, mh Tartu pride’il (12–18.08.2024). Saadud andmed võimaldasid luua esimese kvalitatiivse profiili Balti riikide kväär-perede kohta
