Don’t eat all at once. Break your fast with dates and water and take a prayer break. Have a light meal and take a breather before reaching for dessert. Go for your daily work out and have another light meal. Finally have your pre-dawn meal at least an hour before fajr. Spacing out meals will help you to avoid stomach aches because of eating one or two big meals. The sudden stretch of your stomach is the reason why you experience pain. Avoid that by having multiple small meals.

Working out before or after “Iftar” is a subject for debate but, either way you need to work out daily even during Ramadan. If you choose to work out before breaking your fast make sure you have complex carbs during your “Sohoor” and pace yourself. Stop your work out if you experience any dizziness.
If you decide to work out after sunset. Break your fast with something light, make sure you include simple sugars to give you energy to initiate your exercise. After you work out have another meal that includes proteins to repair your muscles.

Portion control is crucial to maintain your waist size. When hunger takes over, it is difficult to restrain yourself from overeating. Make sure you leave the table when you are no longer hungry, not when you are full. Furthermore, split your plate into 4 portions, where the bigger one goes to vegetables, grains, proteins, and later on have fruits.

Part of a healthy “Iftar” meal is having proteins. Go for grilled options and lean meat with minimal fats. Red meat takes more time to digest thus, poultry and fish are better options for easier digestion.
