Under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Egypt, and in partnership with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals—and with the participation of Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of Egypt for Health and Prevention Affairs—we are proud to announce the signing of a strategic partnership and the launch of “Care for Rare.”
This initiative is designed to support the upskilling of university doctors in the diagnosis and management of rare diseases, with a focus on improving care pathways for patients in need.
With the attendance of university presidents, deans of faculties of medicine from across Egypt, and leading rare disease experts, “Care for Rare” will equip frontline healthcare providers with the latest evidence-based practices, structured referral pathways, and a multidisciplinary approach to care. The program will be delivered through a curriculum developed by leading rare disease experts, with the aim of improving the quality of care for children living with rare conditions.
At AstraZeneca, we work toward advancing health equity by putting patients and families at the heart of everything we do. “Care for Rare” represents both a commitment and a call to action—offering practical support and renewed hope for individuals living with rare diseases and their families.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month as well as COPD Awareness Day. Building on the Lung Health Resolution adopted at this year's World Health Assembly, AstraZeneca Egypt invites you to join a one-of-a-kind discussion at @ GlobalPHDC on translating policy into practice for lung cancer patients in Egypt and across MEA.

This session is designed to bring the WHA78 Lung Health resolution to life, strengthening patient-centered care by engaging cross-sector partners and country leaders to drive collaborative innovation in lung health.

The discussion features Professor Dr. "Mohamed Hassany", Assistant Minister of Health and Population, Egypt; Professor Dr. "Emad Hamada", Head of the Presidential Initiative for Cancer Early Detection and Management; Professor Dr. "Mohamed Fawzi", Advisor for Radiology Affairs for the Minister of Health and Population, Egypt; and Professor Dr. "Hossam Hosny Masoud", Executive Director of Cairo University Hospitals.

The session will be moderated by "Jennifer Jackson", Government Affairs and Policy Director, AstraZeneca, MEA.

Aligning with Egypt’s National Health Strategy 2030, AstraZeneca’s Young Health Programme (YHP) is a global health equity initiative focused on prevention and health education for youth. Launched in 2010, YHP empowers adolescents and young adults (10–24) to make healthier choices and advocate for change, targeting NCD risk factors—tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, harmful alcohol use, and air pollution. Since 2021, YHP Egypt has partnered with government and civil society across underserved communities, reaching more than 1 million people.
In this context, we are honored to host a one-of-a-kind panel bringing together national leadership and global partners to advance youth health and equity. Hosting esteemed guests including Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Assistant Minister of Health for Institutional Development and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, the discussion will feature Mrs. Natalia Winder Rossi, UNICEF Representative in Egypt; Mrs: Rozan Khalifeh, Country Director at Plan International Egypt; and Mrs Ohoud Wafi, Chairwoman of the Hayah Karima Foundation. Following the adoption of the World Health Assembly’s 78th resolution—advancing health equity for people living with rare diseases worldwide—AstraZeneca Egypt is honored to host a high-level panel featuring H.E. Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population of Egypt; H.E. Prof. Saleh Al-Hasnawi, Minister of Health of Iraq; Dr. Asmus Hammerich, Director of NMH at the World Health Organization (WHO) EMRO; and private-sector perspectives from Pelin Incesu, MEA Area Vice President at AstraZeneca. The session will be moderated by Alexandra Huber-Perry, CEO of Rare Diseases International, ensuring that patients’ voices and perspectives are front and center.
