We are all born innocent, curious and open to the world and all of the wonders that it contains. But we live in a culture that encourages conformity and conditions us to live in a constant state of chronic stress, disconnection or numbness. Because our brain and nervous system is wired to keep us safe, we develop adaptive strategies which soon become unconscious habits of feeling, thinking and doing. And when we face overwhelming experiences which we are unable to integrate, these become trapped in the body as trauma or tension and continue to echo in our present moment experience.
The nervous system gets stuck in a sense of unsafety, which may at times be true, but is often a misperception, causing chronic contraction and flooding the system with stress hormones. This sets up negative feedback loops between feeling and thinking that have an impact not only on our inner state, but also on our relationships with others and with life in general.
The good news is that this state need not be a life sentence. By becoming aware of our conditioned patterns of feeling, thinking and doing, we can discern those which may no longer be serving us and, through leveraging the power of neuroplasticity, we can come to remember our true nature, our authentic self, our original state of being.
During this transformational retreat from Thursday to Saturday evening, Marcus and Teresa will guide you in a selection of psychosomatic practices to facilitate the integration of incomplete emotions and initiate your capacity to feel more consciously. We will work holistically with the body, the mind, the heart, and the breath - which acts as a bridge - so as to truly embody the changes and carry them forward into daily life.
