Position: Senior Technical Support Engineer, EV Charging
Reports to: Technical Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Technical Support Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on expert in EV charging technology, responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our charging station network. This role involves three core functions: advanced technical troubleshooting, managing periodic maintenance programs, and conducting initial estimations for new infrastructure projects. As a senior member of the team, you will serve as a technical escalation point, mentor junior technicians, and play a crucial role in upholding our commitment to service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Technical Support Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, which can be categorized as follows:
1. Technical Support and Troubleshooting
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues related to charging hardware, software, and network connectivity (OCPP) that cannot be resolved by Level 1 support.
Perform in-depth root-cause analysis of hardware and software failures, leading cross-functional troubleshooting sessions with engineering, product development, and external vendors (OEMs) to ensure swift resolution.
Develop and implement mitigation strategies to prevent the recurrence of common issues, contributing to the continuous improvement of our network's reliability.
Create and maintain detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for diagnosing and resolving technical problems, including guidelines for on-site diagnostics and repairs.
Oversee and execute the periodic maintenance schedule for all charging stations within the assigned territory, ensuring compliance with OEM recommendations and industry best practices.
Conduct comprehensive inspections of electrical systems, including wiring, grounding, and safety components.
Perform functional testing, visual inspections of all station components, including cables, connectors, displays, and payment systems, to ensure safety and a positive user experience.
Meticulously document all maintenance activities, inspection results, and parts replaced in our asset management system to maintain accurate records and support warranty claims.
Conduct initial site assessments for potential new charging station locations to evaluate feasibility and estimate infrastructure requirements.
Assess site-specific power availability, electrical panel capacity, and civil work requirements (e.g., trenching, foundations, roofing).
Provide preliminary estimates for installation costs, including equipment, labor, and necessary site upgrades, to support the sales and project management teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics Science, or a closely related technical field.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in technical support, field service, or an engineering role, with hands-on experience in the EV charging industry.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong expertise in troubleshooting and repairing EV charging hardware (AC Level 2, DC Fast Chargers) and software systems.
In-depth knowledge of EV charging standards and protocols, particularly OCPP.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, and network protocol analyzers.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Problem-Solving: A proven track record of curiosity-driven problem-solving and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications from major EV charging equipment manufacturers.
Certifications from major EV service and maintenance.
Experience in mentoring or leading junior technical staff.
Familiarity with project management software and practices.
Working Conditions
This role requires both office-based work and frequent travel to various job sites within the region.
A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
