🦋Bruce Perry’s 3 R’s — Regulate, Relate & Reason — provide a framework for understanding the stages of emotional & cognitive development, & I think important to use in all stages of parenting (& tbh I also share this information when working with adults & couples!)

1️⃣ REGULATE, emphasises the need for individuals, especially children, to achieve emotional & physiological stability before they can engage effectively.

2️⃣ RELATE, highlights the importance of building safe, trusting relationships that foster connection & social engagement, which are crucial for emotional healing.

3️⃣ REASON involves engaging higher-order thinking & cognitive processes, enabling individuals to make sense of their experiences & develop coping strategies.

Together, these stages outline a holistic approach to supporting children overcoming challenges & although it was created by Perry to support children who have experienced trauma, I think it is a great bottom-up concept that is applicable to anyone who is stressed or upset.
