Welcome our first-year liaison, Michelle Pham

Michelle is from Orange County, CA and studied Biology at UC San Diego. She is excited to be able to learn more about the different career paths within optometry, and to share what she learns with the rest of her class at future events! Next is our PR person, Monica Do

Monica manages EyeChat!’s social media (Facebook and Instagram) and updates club website content. In addition, she assists in coordinating outreach for club speakers. Her hometown is Falls Church, VA and studied Sociology at the University of Virginia (Go Hoos)! She’s interested in learning more about different paths she can take after graduating optometry school and is incredibly excited to share this type of information with others! When she has some free time, Monica loves to explore new cafes, munch on some delicious food, chit-chatting with her friends, and playing pickleball.

Don’t forget our Secretary, Sophia Chan!

Sophia is responsible for managing EyeChat!’s email to maintain effective communication with its members. She was born and raised in Hayward, CA, and completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at UC Irvine. She is excited to explore the unconventional career paths of optometry and share all that EyeChat has to offer! Outside of school, Sophia enjoys watching dramas, rock climbing, playing games, and exploring new cafes / restaurants!

Next up, the woman who signs the checks, Iris Lu!

Iris is a Bay Area native and double bear, having completed her undergrad in integrative Biology at UC Berkeley! When she was in elementary school, she spent 4 hours with a tech at the optometrist’s office trying to put in contact lenses for the first time — and now the tables have turned. Iris looks forward to learning more about the wilder fields of optometry available, and the different possibilities that can be attained for students! Her current concern is trying to find the best matcha latte in Berkeley.

Next is the one and only Adam Ventura!

Adam supports the president with their role and assumes Presidential duties in their absence. He grew up in Indio, CA and completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at UCLA. Adam is looking forward to having the opportunity to explore the diversity of career paths that optometry has to offer, as well as helping his peers do the same when attending EyeChat meetings. When not at school, you can catch him at the movie theatre watching the latest film, trying out a new restaurant or relaxing at home with some video games and listening to his favorite tunes.

First up is our fearless leader, Kaleigh Lin!

Kaleigh is responsible for bringing in all EyeChat speakers for meetings and managing all of EyeChat operations. She is excited to bring new speakers and is passionate about connecting members with different speakers and resources. Kaleigh is from Austin, TX, and completed her undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. During her free time, Kaleigh likes dancing, cook/bake new recipes, getting food with friends, and scrapbooking/making crafts!

Eyechat! General Meeting #3 RECAP 👁️‍🗨️💬

So much appreciation to those to who came out to EyeChat!’s 3rd general meeting/1st meeting of the semester! Our members ate some delicious chipotle burritos, and listened to Dr. Fayiz Mahgoub’s inspirational and unconventional path in Optometry! Special thanks again to Dr. Fayiz Mahgoub and Chad Zscherny for taking time out of their busy schedules to speak with us.
