The Clock Was Ticking: A Case of Non Immune Hydrops

A patient presented for routine anomaly scan at 21 weeks.
The sonographer noted fetal ascites and skin edema, an unexpected case of hydrops fetalis.

Further evaluation revealed no evidence of Rh incompatibility, and the suspicion shifted to non immune causes.
Thanks to structured training in the Fetal Medicine Diploma, the physician was able to:

Conduct targeted fetal echo ➡️ revealing a large pericardial effusion.

Refer the case early to pediatric cardiology ➡️ diagnosed with a fetal cardiac tumor.

Coordinate multidisciplinary counseling ➡️ planned delivery with NICU support.

Without early diagnosis, the fetal might havn’t survived.
With the right knowledge, a life was saved before birth.

• Understand what each defect means for delivery, surgery, and survival
With congenital heart disease affecting up to 0.6% of live births, this diploma gives you:
Clinical confidence

It Looked Like a Normal Scan, Until It Wasn’t.

An obstetrician received a patient with a normal looking 4 chamber view.
But during advanced training, she learned to always check outflow tracts and arch anatomy.
Months later, another patient came — same appearance — but she went deeper.
The fetus had Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA). It was missed in the referral scan.

✅ Because of her training, she:

Caught the defect early
Coordinated neonatal cardiac surgery
Gave the baby a future

One view saved a life. Imagine what full training could do.

One measurement isn't enough. Context is everything.
What looks like a simple case might be a sign of a serious hidden problem.
That’s why structured thinking, pattern recognition, and complete anatomical review are key.
In our Fetal Medicine Diploma, we teach you how to connect the dots, not just report measurements.
Because the difference between a normal case and a critical one lies in how you interpret it.
Enroll now and learn how to scan with clinical purpose, not just protocol.

What if the numbers you don’t see are the ones that matter most?

Birth defects are a silent crisis across the Arab world and the stats are alarming.
In some regions, nearly 7 out of every 100 newborns are affected by congenital anomalies.

Here’s what the data says over the past 5 years.
Egypt – 7.4%
Saudi Arabia – 3.2% to 4.1%
Bahrain – 2.1% to 3.1%
Morocco – Around 0.6% to 0.9%

Most common risk factors?
* Marrying within the family
* Maternal health conditions
* Lack of prenatal supplements
* Late pregnancies

It's time we talk more about fetal health and push for more prenatal care awareness across our region.
