Scientists Have Created a Method to Regrow Teeth:

Recent research suggests that a small dose of light may be enough to stimulate new tooth growth.

A team led by Dr. Arany shone low-power laser light on the tooth pulps of rats, which resulted in the formation of tertiary dentin, a bone-like substance. This finding points to the potential for tooth regeneration.

To better understand how light induces this growth, the researchers examined the biological mechanism and discovered that low-power laser light activates transforming growth factor–β (TGF-β). This activation triggers the production of reactive oxygen species, which in turn causes dental stem cells to differentiate into odontoblasts, the cells responsible for forming dentin.

The mechanism was further validated when mice lacking TGF-β or treated with a TGF-β inhibitor did not respond to the laser treatment, confirming its key role in the process.

Since lasers are already used in dentistry for other treatments, this discovery could pave the way for light-based therapies aimed at regenerating teeth in humans, potentially offering a new approach to dental care in the future.

Cavities Literally Cause Heart Disease - And Death:

The bacteria that cause gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis can travel through the bloodstream, leading to inflammation and damage in your blood vessels.

For diabetics, the connection is even more serious — high blood sugar can damage your teeth, and in turn, dental issues can make blood sugar harder to control.

It’s a vicious cycle that many people don’t realize.

But despite how crucial dental health is, teeth are often treated as “luxury bones.”

Dental care, including cleanings and maintenance, is rarely fully covered by insurance. It’s a particularly prominent problem in the US, leaving many to deal with the consequences of untreated problems.

And if a tooth infection spreads, it can quickly become a life-threatening issue by traveling to the brain or bloodstream.

Dentures Used to Be Made from the Teeth of the Dead:

In the past, teeth from the recently deceased — often soldiers who had died in battle — were highly valued for their relatively healthy condition. Since soldiers were typically young, their teeth were prime candidates for reuse.

After being removed from the dead body, cleaned, and mounted on bases made from materials like ivory, these teeth became dentures.

One notable example occurred after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, when thousands of soldiers’ teeth were taken and sold to dentists, earning them the grim nickname "Waterloo teeth."

Thankfully, modern dentistry has come a long way, and today’s dentures are crafted from materials like acrylic, porcelain, or resin, leaving such morbid practices in the past.

Over 60 whales have visited Denia coast so far this year
written by JC Admin July 9, 2024

Dénia coast has become a privileged place to spot fin whales, due partly to the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve, which is a protected area between Dénia and Javea.
Every spring “the whales migrate from Italy’s South Ligurian Sea, and come up every year towards the Atlantic Ocean to feed, looking for colder waters and they draw a straight line to our coast on their journey. The San Antonio and Nao Capes are key points in the navigation of the whales, and can be observed very close to the coasts of Denia and Javea.

After passing through the coast of Dénia, they head to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibralta, to head north along the coasts of Portugal to Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea.

There is never a one-size-fit- all approach to any dementia care situation.
You may often doubt what you’re doing, what the "best" way is to handle certain situations. Just like parenting, there are lots of different frustrations and options. What I've learned is that the "best" approach is the one that works for your loved one.

So, I pay close attention to how they respond to my actions. If they seem to get upset, fearful or angry it's a sign to do or say something differently. On the other hand, if they seem comfortable with our approach, then it's probably the right one for them.
Remember, caring for someone with dementia isn't about following a strict set of rules. Some may respond well to clear and direct communication, while others may need a softer touch, even some humour, a picture or a sound, a smell.

Do you notice any particular approach that your loved one responds to better? It's okay to experiment and have a go at different methods. And if you ever feel unsure or stuck, don't hesitate to reach out to healthcare providers or dementia specialists, communication experts like me or Claudia, for guidance.
Recognise that every individual is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. Keep observing, keep adapting, and most importantly, keep providing the love and care your loved one needs.

That's why, when you're feeling stuck or unsure on what to do, it can help to consult with a dementia expert to figure out the specific approach for your loved one. And we developed (and continue to develop) approaches like our free guide here.

Our program offers a proactive, insightful approach to caregiving. Join us in fostering a culture of compassion and positivity. Together, we can create meaningful moments that make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals with neurocognitive disorders.

I’ve had a new look at Ralph Waldo Emerson (1802 – 1882) essay on Self Reliance, and I am relating it to our world in 2024
He says that it’s far better to be misunderstood and be true to oneself than to conform to societal expectations, criticising society for demanding compliance, and societal pressure as deterrents to self-growth and self-discovery. Once again, as in the 1960s I hear young people asking for the same.

Emerson asserted that the virtue of individuality is paramount and that each person should embrace their unique perspective as a path to intellectual and spiritual freedom.

He made a compelling case against societal pressure to conform, arguing that it hinders intellectual growth and authentic self-expression. He attacked institutions (including organized religion and political parties) for promoting conformity at the expense of individuality. And I wonder if, by trying to imitate others, following social media, people these days are killing their own potential and identity.

Emerson challenges those who believe in the safety of convention, believing we should respect and use our instincts and ideas as a compass for our life and work - a perspective that places individual experiences and intuition as the highest authority, even over conventional wisdom or majority rule.

Do you believe in the potential of individual thought, and the innovation that springs from it? If so, what’s stopping you acknowledging and using your innate skills, trusting your perception, rather than leaning unduly on external support or approval?
