This is a long post, so apologies.
TLDR: Cashflow is currently a massive issue, please support us as much as you can, whether that is coming to our events, or grabbing some of our cook at home pizzas. If you can’t help financially, we completely get that, so maybe spread the word, (I know LOADS of you already do - thank you!) even just liking this post will help us more than you think 🙏
From the outside, it can look like a small business is doing extremely well, what with our new unit, bigger events, postal deliveries etc. The actual story is that we (and a lot of other businesses) are just *trying* to do well, with continual investment back into the business, cashflow is a constant issue and we are often operating hand to mouth. Rent and utility bills are so expensive for everyone now, even more so for commercial businesses. You’d think we get better rates, but we just don’t. I’m sure many other small businesses would agree with me here.
Some of you will know that we have a new van on the way, and all of our savings have gone into this new van. Yesterday I received an email stating there was going to be an extra cost of over £3600 on the conversion. I have no choice but to agree to this, because I need the van back so we can get out trading in it.
Our current trailer is failing apart. The tap broke within the first 3 months, the freezer never worked properly, the rear indicator has stopped working, one of the tyres flew off only a few months back, 2 of the stabilisers are broken, the reflectors are gradually falling off, it leaks when it rains, the list goes on. So we need the new van so we can take the existing trailer to have various things fixed.
Our new unit is great, loads of space, nice neighbours but it’s just really an empty shell, we don’t even have any chairs to sit down, nor do I have a desk. We have started building some walls, but again, cashflow keeps putting a halt to work.
We do have loads of really busy events where we do well, but it does seem Facebook ultimately decides if we will do well or not at our roadside locations. Over 15 likes on a post about the location and the orders seem to fly in, if there’s only a couple, the post just seems to disappear into the abyss, and the orders don’t come in. Last weekend we had our Saturday market cancelled due to the storm and Sunday was very quiet because it was still quite windy.
Dough it Yourself went from 70 orders 2 weeks ago to just 10 this week. DPD charge me a £40 fee if I don’t have 20 parcels per week, so that’s another hit. If you have had one from us, please leave us a review on the product page, Google or Facebook.
I know these “please help us” business posts keep coming up over and over at the moment, and I’m sorry to have to post this, but it is a last resort really. I am determined to keep Craving Crust going, I enjoy it and also love what we are trying to do for the GF community.
Thanks so much if you’ve made it to the end of this, hope to see you soon at one of our events 🙂
