We want to make a difference. And to do so, we need all the help we can get.

👉 On our next mission, which will take place in Costa Rica between 24 November and 3 December, we will be providing healthcare to people with disabilities living in two areas: Cartago and the Talamanca rainforest in Amubri.

Members of these communities face daily challenges in terms of mobility, communication and self-care, and have very limited access to regular medical or rehabilitation care. These difficulties are exacerbated in the case of people with disabilities, who are unable to receive the specialised care they need.

✔️ In this context, our team of international volunteers plays a key role: caring for children and young people with a wide range of disabilities, including cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorders.

Following on from the Hands with Heart Foundation Part 2 video I shared earlier 😊
I wanted to say something specifically about the significance of the last photo in the video.......... really just to big up how truly powerful and life changing Osteopathy can be 😊.
When we arrived at this family's home, the child's mother told us that her 13 year old daughter who has Cerebral Palsy, hadn't been able to turn her head to the right for a long time.
And on testing, her head really was very much fixed into left rotation with a huge amount of spasticity present 😔
After treatment from the gifted hands of my amazing colleague Italian Osteopath Chiara Fenaroli......a profound change occurred ♥️

Costa Rica Mission July 2025
PART 2 - The Jungle 🌴🥥🐒🐍🍌🌴

Shared from Hands with Heart Foundation ✋♥️✋♥️

👉 Between July 6-10 our team covered 300 km² of the Bribri Indigenous Territory, encompassing multiple communities deep within the jungle. A total of 119 sessions were delivered to 119 different patients, including children with autism and other complex disabilities.

The mission also provided home visits, responding to spontaneous requests by family members for treatment. But getting to these communities was not easy: we were in remote jungle settings with no roads and full of river crossings, muddy trails, and dense vegetation. Besides hiking daily for hours and using boats, motorbikes and adapted buses to travel, our volunteers relied on local guides from the DAWÉ ESE WKPA KIMOIE Association and used radio announcements in Bribri language to coordinate with families.

There were also a cultural side to the mission: we engaged in different activities to learn more about the Bribri language and beliefs, their understanding of and , and traditions such as the preparation and ceremonial role of cacao.

🌟 With missions like this one in Costa Rica, we keep our focus on improving the lives of people with disabilities around the world, providing them with free quality healthcare services. In , where disabled children and adults often have little or no access to specialized support, especially in remote and indigenous communities, our team identified a gap where we can make a significant difference, not just in a medical sense but also by empowering families and raising awareness of their situation.

We will return to Costa Rica in late November to keep providing healthcare services to people with disabilities and giving training and educational sessions to local therapists - very soon we will share all the information you need to be able to join as a .
