Does massage only give your shoulder & neck pain temporary relief? Pain and tightness at the base of the neck can feel muscular, but the most common cause of stiff, sore shoulders is actually joint restriction. When we spend a lot of time with our head craned forward (or stressed), spinal joints and rib joints can get jammed or irritated, and this makes the local shoulder muscles tighten up in a kind if protective manner. Massage will only give temporary relief to this type of shoulder soreness and tightness. But loosening and releasing the restricted neck & upper back joints can give quick relief. Pain at the front of the shoulder is often biceps tendinitis (tendonitis). To get rid of biceps tendinopathy once and for all, you have to address the underlying causes, not just do biceps rehab exercises! Biceps tendon pain comes from shoulder impingement, and the head of the humerus riding too far forward in the joint, which is extremely common. (In fact, most anterior shoulder pain issues come from the same two things).
