Improving healthcare Since 2011

The story of Mediktor begins in 2011 in Barcelona when Cristian Pascual and his brother-in-law, Dr. Oscar García-Esquirol, decided to join forces to improve access to healthcare worldwide. Oscar, a physician specializing in intensive care, observed that time and costs could be saved in medical care if the pre-diagnosis process were streamlined, giving the patients an intuitive and safe tool with which they could evaluate their symptoms from anywhere and in any time, helping them to make the most appropriate decision about the next step to follow. For example, if they should talk to a doctor online, book a face-to-face appointment at a local clinic, go directly to the emergency department or call an ambulance.

They started building an algorithm from scratch, at home on Sundays, and in 2014 they launched a first product to the market. Today our multidisciplinary team has already released 160 versions of the application; Mediktor’s database has 7,000 questions, 35,000 synonyms per language (10 languages) that relate to 760 diseases, using artificial intelligence and natural language recognition. It is the only symptom checker in the world that's clinically validated with a success rate of 91.3 percent.

In December 2017, Mediktor opened an office in New York where the company’s purpose is to open the market and carry out the commercialization of its B2B SaaS solution all around the US for health insurance companies, telemedicine platforms and hospitals.

Since October 2018, Mediktor leads Barcelona Health Hub, a non-profit private organization created to promote innovation in digital health and its transfer to the sector, linking startups, health organizations, companies and investors. This new European hub for health innovation, where Mediktor settles its headquarters, is placed in the stunning UNESCO World Heritage’s Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site in Barcelona, which was home of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau for more than a century.
