Casa Batlló is a Catalan Modernist building designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí. It is located in Passeig de Gracia, 43, one of Barcelona's most iconic avenues thanks to its modernist legacy.

Gaudí was inspired by nature to create his work of art. Many shapes originate from animals. You see elements such as skulls and bones, without any straight lines. However, you can see the shape of water, many colours and even a dragon on the roof.

This UNESCO World Heritage site has a variety of access conditions 👇

📍 Lift: There is a lift with priority usage for persons with disabilities and with reduced mobility, and pregnant women.

Do you know all your rights when travelling by plane? 🤔

People with access needs have the right to access air travel like anybody else 🙂

So, be aware of all your rights when travelling by plane in Europe 🛬

- If you don't buy your ticket online, the vendor should always, the vendor should always give you all the information about your journey in a format that is accessible to you. You must know all specific adaptations available for you on the plane.
- You have the right to free assistance at terminals and boarding vehicles. Everything is free of charge.
- You can have assistance with your luggage and get on and off the plane and during the flight
- You can have assistance in airports before and after your flight
- You can have assistance on ground handling services if you are travelling with an assistance dog

How can you get this assistance? 😀

- Contact the airline, ticket seller or tour operator at least 48 hours before your trip and explain all your needs, especially if you travel with an electric wheelchair.

When we think about barriers, we imagine physical obstacles like steps, stairs, or doorways that prevent wheelchair users from truly accessing cities.

But there are other types of barriers too:

📍 Media: information that isn't accessible in an understandable format

📍 Technology: software, electronic, or physical technologies that aren't adaptable for use with assistive devices

📍 Policies: practices, guidelines, or regulations that put much pressure in people with access needs

📍 Perception: false assumptions that people with access needs can't contribute as many other people

One of the most well-known tourist destinations in Barcelona is Park Güell. This park receives millions of visitors each year. So what makes it unique and fascinating?

📍 The architecture: You can see Gaudí at its best. Take your time to see all shapes, colors, and mixing styles.

📍 The Dragon: One of the most famous sights in the city is the salamander known as The Dragon.

📍 The Flora: The buildings and designs were meticulously designed by Gaudí, who was very concerned about the types of trees and plants. Most of them are Mediterranean trees.

📍 City views: the breathtaking views of the city are yet another major incentive to go there.
There are many reasons to visit Park Güell as you can see. But how wheelchair accessible is Park Güell?

People with access needs may find it very challenging because of irregular paths and steep ramps. However, if you pay attention to our tips you should be fine:

👉 Access
- The best way to access Park Güell is from Carretera del Carmel.

👉Accessible routes
- There are 2 accessible routes. The “Architectural route” will take roughly 50 minutes and presents you with the most iconic sites. Or you can follow the “Viaduct’s path” up to Casa Trias. This route takes about 20 minutes.

👉 Visitor support service
- Park Güell has 2 wheelchairs available that can be booked in advance. If you have any specific needs, contact the Visitor support service via email: parkguell@bsmsa.cat

👉Parking
- People with access needs can have free parking places.

👉 Price
- The ticket costs 10€

📍 Did you know that around 15% of the world’s population, or an estimated 1 billion people, live with disabilities? They are the world’s largest minority!

📍 Did you know that in countries with life expectancies over 70 years, individuals spend on average, about 8 years, or 11.5% of their life span, living with disabilities?. That’s 10-30% of Human life affected by Disability.

📍 Did you know that 135 million people in Europe and 61 million people in USA have long-standing disabilities?

📍 Did you know that comparative studies on disability legislation show that only 45 countries have anti-discrimination and other disability-specific laws?

There is still much work to be done to raise awareness and improve the lives of all persons with disabilities.

If you travel in a wheelchair, you should have a packing list. Many people with access needs want to travel but worry about getting the assistive services & products they need abroad.

Essential items go far beyond clothing, toiletries or medical devices.

We have created a more generic packing list for travelling with a wheelchair because we think that all people should be able to select services and products that are adapted to their specific needs:
