Costa Blanca Walks WELCOME TO GEOFF'S COSTA BLANCA WALKS! http://www.costablancawalks.weebly.com Walks are from October to April. Often a car is needed to access the start.

Most are near Benidorm or Calpe, with a more northerly walk near Jalon or Gata once a month. There is a walk every Wednesday starting at 10.30 - these are usually the easier walks. On Saturdays we arrange longer walks with higher ascents so these tend to be moderate / hard. The aim of the walks is to enjoy the scenery and to make friends. The pace will be steady , with stops to admire the views, r

ecover from climbs and examine features of interest. There will be a picnic lunch on the walk and a social drink at the end. The walks are of a moderate standard, divided into three grades:
^^ Easy Mod. 8km. 200m asc. 3hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^ Moderate 10 km 300m ascent 3.5 hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^^ Hard Mod. 12 km 400m ascent 4 hrs ( incl. stops )

There is no charge for the walks. If you want to show your appreciation then offer the leader a drink at the end. Many paths in Spain are rough and rocky , with steep sections with a loose surface requiring mountain boots with a thick sole , deep tread and ankle support. BOOTS MUST BE WORN FOR ALL WALKS! You will be required to sign in at the start to say that you walk at your own responsibility. YOU WALK AT YOUR OWN RISK. You need insurance. The Austrian Alpine Club UK for £36 a year covers rescue, medical and repatriation costs. I hope to see you on a walk soon, Geoff. SATURDAY 24TH MAY - FONT MOLI GUADALEST TO FONT PARTAGAS - 10KM , 350 Metres ascent.
This is a walk based on Map G-1 - note that on Geoffs maps the start is called Font Moli d'Ondara - on Google Maps it is called Font Moli Benimantell.
A popular straightforward walk on well graded tracks , Penyo Mulero is the highpoint of a broad rounded ridge.

We will meet at the Font Moli at 10:30

Take the CV-70 heading north towards Guadalest ( sometimes called the new Guadalest Road ) , lookout for the KM 35 sign.
There on the left will be a turning and sign for Restaurant Trestellador.
Turn in here , then right at the small T - Junction , then stay left at a small fork in the road. The Moli and space for parking will come up on the left. ( ALEX 634352035 )

Fontilles L***r Colony - ceased as a L***r hospital in the 1980's and now a recuperation and care home.

We start at the Council Swimming Pool Car Park in Murla .

As you enter Murla the road curves to the left - there is a sharp right hand onto the road to the Swimming Pool.

We will start off from the Car Park at the Pool at 10:30

SATURDAY 10 TH MAY - CALPE - 11 KMS AND 300 METRES ASCENT - MODERATE

This weeks walk is "Pedro's Paseo" and starts at the Ermita de San Juan / Ermita de La Cometa just outside Calpe.

It is a rarely walked area with varied terrain and stunning coastal and mountain views.

The route is approximately 10.5 km and 250 meters overall ascent. Lunch is normally at the Quisi watermill.

This walk is an adapted version of Map J-9

We start at the dirt carpark next to the Sports Centre on the edge of Jalon. The Sports Centre is on the roundabout before the Social Centre.
From the N-332 Benissa take the CV 745 to Jalon / Xalo. As you enter Jalon the road bends right at the petrol station.
A few hundred meters along is the roundabout with the Sports Centre car park immediately off the roundabout.

The most significant cholera outbreak in Sella occurred in 1885, lasting 19 days, resulting in 18 deaths and 45 serious infections. This event led to the creation of an alternative route to bypass the village, now known as “The Cholera Walk,” which remains a popular hiking trail today.

The village of Sella is on the CV- 770 - 15 minutes north of the N-332 / Villajoyosa. We will park up in the layby on the left just before the bridge that leads into the village.

A scenic countryside walk along characterful and imposing Mozarabic trails.
Meet at children's playground in Senija at usual time of 10:30
Take the old N-332 / Benissa High Street and then the CV-745 at the roundabout near Bar Frau towards Senija.
As you enter Senija take the right hand fork (Av. de Les Corts Valencianes) and drive a couple of hundred metres and park near the kiddies playground.

This walk is loosely based on Map C-8 and starts from Calpe Railway Station.
If you cross over the railway line there are a couple of side roads on the left where parking is usually available.

An nice and interesting circuit in rural countryside featuring a washhouse, 2 railway bridges,

SATURDAY 5TH APRIL - BARRANCO DEL CAU - JALON VALLEY

Barranco del Cau - circa 14 Kms, 400m of ascent & 4.50 hrs. Moderate / Hard. 10:30

An iconic walk taking in all facets and features of high valley terrain.

Comprehensive access to all indigenous flora and fauna and replete with a second half 1000 years old path in utilising an ever popular mozarabic trail.

Interest, satisfaction and downright enjoyment abound. I commend this walk to you.

To get there - Head down the Jalon valley from N332.

Turn left on to Camino Cau Oeste / Partida Camino Barranco immediately after an abandoned garden centre on your RHS and a range of bins on your LHS.

A guide will be standing at the side of the road to wave you in !!

Towards the top of this straight road park on RHS next to the high wall of a house.
