WELCOME TO GEOFF'S COSTA BLANCA WALKS! http://www.costablancawalks.weebly.com Walks are from October to April. Often a car is needed to access the start.

Most are near Benidorm or Calpe, with a more northerly walk near Jalon or Gata once a month. There is a walk every Wednesday starting at 10.30 - these are usually the easier walks. On Saturdays we arrange longer walks with higher ascents so these tend to be moderate / hard. The aim of the walks is to enjoy the scenery and to make friends. The pace will be steady , with stops to admire the views, recover from climbs and examine features of interest. There will be a picnic lunch on the walk and a social drink at the end. The walks are of a moderate standard, divided into three grades:
^^ Easy Mod. 8km. 200m asc. 3hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^ Moderate 10 km 300m ascent 3.5 hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^^ Hard Mod. 12 km 400m ascent 4 hrs ( incl. stops )

There is no charge for the walks. If you want to show your appreciation then offer the leader a drink at the end. Many paths in Spain are rough and rocky , with steep sections with a loose surface requiring mountain boots with a thick sole , deep tread and ankle support. BOOTS MUST BE WORN FOR ALL WALKS! You will be required to sign in at the start to say that you walk at your own responsibility. YOU WALK AT YOUR OWN RISK. You need insurance. The Austrian Alpine Club UK for £36 a year covers rescue, medical and repatriation costs. I hope to see you on a walk soon, Geoff. WEDNESDAY 14TH JANUARY - Dos Ermitas , Based on Map B-7 , 10 Km , 200 metres ascent , approx 3 hrs.

We will start from the La Barraca Ceramica which is on the N-332 coming from Benissa towards Gata Gorgos.
It is the blue and yellow one that has a yard on the other side of the road. Turn down here by the yard( coming from Benissa side ) and park.

A gentle lowland walk below the Montgo. Bring coins for the 'what the padre saw machine'.

Rural circuit on paths and lanes with views of Montgo.

Hello all,
Now that the Christmas and New Year festivities have wound down - and maybe some walkers have returned to Spain after the holidays -
we will resume our walks with an Easy / Medium one on Saturday 10th January.

SATURDAY 10TH JANUARY - LLIBER - THE SECRET GORGE near Lliber. Easy/ Mod
Starting by walking the well known hidden valley under the red cliffs we continue and ascend the 'secret gorge' path. Then return via 'Metal Micky' and La Moneta. The walk offers fantastic views and the route is a mix of good tracks and paths of about 10 Km, 200m ascent, 3.30hrs. 10:30 AM start.

We start at the dirt carpark next to the Sports Centre on the edge of Jalon.The Sports Centre is on the roundabout before the Social Centre.
From the N-332 Benissa take the CV 745 to Jalon / Xalo. As you enter Jalon the road bends right at the petrol station.
A few hundred meters along is the roundabout with the Sports Centre car park immediately off the roundabout.

SATURDAY 13TH DECEMBER - CALPE - 12 KMS AND 380 METRES ASCENT - MODERATE

This weeks walk is "Pedro's Paseo" and starts at the Ermita de San Juan / Ermita de La Cometa just outside Calpe.
The chance to explore a little walked area of the countryside on the outskirts of Calpe
It is a rarely walked area with varied terrain and tracks and stunning coastal and mountain views.

We meet and start from the Ermita De La Cometa which is on the north end of Urbanization Cometa 3 ( Partida Tosal de la Cometa ) - 10:30 AM
The Ermita is 5 minutes drive / 3 Kms from the Tennis Club in Calpe

WEDNESDAY 10TH DECEMBER - RELLEU PLUS OPTIONAL DIVERSION

We start at 10:30 from just outside the village of Relleu. The dirt carpark opposite the Town Hall is now a pedestrian area so cannot use that anymore.
We walk south and arrive at the walkway built onto the side of the gorge - this is an option for those who fancy it ( Euro 3.50 )
It is about 10 Kms with 250 metres overall ascent.
We then return to Relleu via the " flood plain " and the tarmac road into the village where there are a couple of bars.
We then walk back through the village to the cars.

SATURDAY 6TH DECEMBER - GATA DE GORGOS 10:45
Details of this coming Saturday's walk ..... Glorious Gata - an 11 kms, circa 350m gradual ascent, archetypal hill/woodland walk which whilst moderate overall has challenging aspects to it including traversing mozarabic trails.

As ever with views of the Montgo, Denia and the Med. beyond.

Excellently guided to ensure every ounce of pleasure is rung out of the day !

Starts at 10.45am at Gata train station. Park, as ever, behind the oficina de 'Correos' - yellow emblazoned Spanish post office building on the left hand side of the main street (N332) heading towards Denia.

WEDNESDAY 3RD DECEMBER- Under The Lions Head , Polop. Map L-4 , ^^ Easy , 7 KM , 250 metres ascent , approx 3 hrs.
An easy but interesting circuit on good paths and camis ( country lanes ). A path contours the wooded slopes under the mighty cliff of " The Lions Head " with good views.
We will meet at the carpark across the road from the Bar Sueno ( Wooden Hut ) - from the roundabout in Polop take the road towards Xirles ( CV 7621 ) , at the turnoff for Xirles - turn right and you will see the carpark next to the cemetery. 10:30 as usual.

SATURDAY 29th NOVEMBER - LLIBER RED CLIFFS REVERSED - 11 KMS WITH 400 METRES ASCENT - MODERATE / HARD
This walk is an adapted version of Map J-9

ON WEDNESDAY 26TH NOVEMBER WE WILL MEET IN THE CARPARK IN XIRLES - IT IS ON THE LEFT JUST AS YOU ENTER THE VILLAGE
There is some additional parking straight ahead near the Recycling Bins.

Start: Xirles car park. Distance: 9 km.
On paved roads and forest tracks (some stony). 3 to 4 hrs. - Moderate.
Altitude (min/max) - 158m/354m.Elevation gain - 429 m. Elevation loss 425m.

Xirles is on the CV-7620 which forks off the CV-7621 out of Polop.

SATURDAY 22ND NOVEMBER - LLEUS TO PINOS , MAP C14 , 11 KMS , 350 METRES ASCENT , 4HRS PLUS , MODERATE / HARD

This clockwise route is an extended version of Geoff's original route as shown on Map C-14 .
It is a long route but mainly on good paths and trails and crosses and recrosses a ridge. Views are good and Ermitas provide a place for breaks.

We will meet at the Ermita in Lleus at 10:30 - come off the roundabout which comes AFTER the Calpe North exit from Altea side
( with the two petrol stations either side of theroad ) , initially signposted Casa Del Maco then follow signs for Lleus.

WEDNESDAY 19TH NOVEMBER - SIERRA CORTINA / FINESTRAT - 9 KMS , 300 METRES OVERALL ASCENT - MODERATE
This walk is roughly based on our Map F - 8 .
We will meet at 10:30 opposite the " Gas Yard " near the old camping site " Camping Jardine " campsite on the CV 758 .
The CV 758 is between the CV 70 coming out of Benidorm and the village of Finestrat.
Taking the CV70 out of Benidorm / N 332 , turn left towards Finestrat ( at the round about with an old stone farmhouse in the middle of it ) and on to the CV 758.
After four kilometres you will see an orange sign on the right for the gas bottles yard.
Take the next turning to the left between concrete posts and opposite the gas yard. Go straight over the next road.
You will see a boat on the clearing - park here .

SATURDAY 15TH NOVEMBER - JALON - SIERRA DEVESES - MAP J-5 , 11KMS , 350 METRES ASCENT , APPROX 4 HRS - MODERATE - 10:30 AM
This walk is a variation of Map J5.
If we are lucky we can have a coffee at Casa Claudia's on the way back to the cars.
We start at the dirt carpark next to the Sports Centre on the edge of Jalon.
The Sports Centre is on the roundabout before the Social Centre.
From the N-332 Benissa take the CV 745 to Jalon / Xalo. As you enter Jalon the road bends right at the petrol station.

WEDNESDAY 12TH NOVEMBER - SELLA - CAMI DE COLERA ( THE CHOLERA WALK ) - EASY 7KM , 250 METRES ASCENT. 10:30

The most significant cholera outbreak in Sella occurred in 1885, lasting 19 days, resulting in 18 deaths and 45 serious infections.
This event led to the creation of an alternative route to bypass the village, now known as “The Cholera Walk,” which remains a popular hiking trail today.
Also known as the Sella River Walk.

The village of Sella is on the CV- 770 - 15 minutes north of the N-332 / Villajoyosa. We will park up in the layby on the left just before the bridge that leads into the village.
