Both men and women can have s*xual anxiety but I see mostly men in this debilitating condition such are the perceived pressures on male s*xual performance. And that’s just it, perceived, it’s often all going on in men’s heads, most of the time there is nothing physically wrong with them. Which is why when men start to talk about their s*xual anxieties whether it be premature ej*******on, erectile dysfunction, delayed ej*******on, low libido or any other issue relating to performance, therapy can begin to address what might be contributing to their difficulties. To help and hear men (and women) say s*xual anxieties are a thing of the past or at least achieving a very different mindset towards them, is very rewarding and something I have helped hundreds of men with 🙏🏻

My take on ‘Blonde’, the film about by Andrew Dominick:

This film has tapped into the human tendency to ‘split’, either denigrate or idealise, in this case to denigrate Netflix and all those associated with the film, and idealise ‘Marilyn’. She was and still is an icon, not just an actress but one could argue a woman well ahead of her time in a male dominated, chauvinistic industry and society. People have flocked to her defence, outraged at, in their perception and interpretation, being shown as weak willed and a victim. Monroe’s progressive attitude to the times she lived in is unquestionable but this was not the film’s remit. There is a reality; Norma Jeane Baker (her real name) was a deeply traumatised woman, a childhood of insecure attachments, volatile secure base, and abuse. This start in life often leads to addiction or compulsivity as a way to regulate emotions. It’s likely that today she would have been diagnosed with BPD. Marilyn was a Pía Mellody ‘Love addict’…on an eternal search to heal her narcissistic wound. Place these underlying dynamics into a context of a rags to riches story, failed and abusive relationships, abortions and miscarriages and one is left with…despair. This does not make her a bad, weak victim, but let’s bring her out of the glass casket that many want to preserve her in so that she can be a model and pioneer of survival in the most adverse of circumstances to help others that might find themselves in such desperation through no fault of their own.

Note: Netflix’s description of the film as “intimate”. R**e is not intimate and the s*x scenes that bordered non-consensual should be given an explicit warning.

Moving from hyper individualism that apparently “ruins relationships” towards a “we” culture both personal and collective seems to be the way forward for interconnectedness. But is it, can we do both? Many couples struggle with this balance and it’s often the couple’s therapist work to get between those polarities of separateness and togetherness and explore the myriad factors that influence our attachments.
