Helping legal professionals go from feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and burnt out to face the daily pressures of their profession with confidence, calm and clarity. 👋 Meet me

As a certified hypnotherapist/hypnotist and accredited coach, I help legal professionals go from feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, burnt out to face the daily pressures of their profession with confidence, calm and clarity. Taking leadership is something I have done as well. In my mid 30s I had a burn-out. I sought help, changed my life and career. I decided to retrain myself: to become a therapeutic coach and transformational hypnotherapist. I love to work with the subconscious mind. That´s where, in my humble opinion, the real change and transformation begins. I´m Dutch, have Indonesian roots, and live in Spain. I am caring, authentic, practical, pragmatic. I see things from both sides, and have a wicked sense of humour. My focus is on vicarious trauma in the legal world, burn-out symptoms, stress, low self-esteem, and relationship issues (especially the one you have with yourself!).

How To Build Resilience When You Fall Off The Wagon

Have you read that story about a girl who started a new daily routine?

Yeah, that was me…

On day two I went for a day out with my husband. Then, in the evening, I chose to watch football in a bar, ate too much, got home late and skipped my walk the next morning. 🤪🤣

It was a deliberate decision to head out and do all those things. And, to be fair, it took me a good few days to get back on track. I just laughed about it.

But what if one falls off the wagon for a longer period of time and negative self talk pops up?

There’s no need to beat yourself up. We’re not robots, we’re only human. We fall, we get up again.

Here are 5️⃣ reflective questions that make it easier to jump on the wagon again.
* What led to not sticking to the plan?
* What did you do instead?
* What were you feeling, thinking, saying to yourself when you didn’t return to your plan?
* What do you truly want to do?
* What could you change to prevent this from happening again?

All these questions lead to awareness. And awareness leads to change. By being aware of patterns - be it behaviour, emotions, feelings or thoughts - you are in control.

This way, when in a similar situation next time, you probably choose to act differently. If not, you’ll just reflect on the situation. That’s how we learn, change and improve our .

🤔 Which behaviour, thoughts, feelings or words you say to yourself are preventing you from achieving what you want to achieve?

A Daily Routine Reduces Stress

🐈 In winter the cat and I, we have a daily morning routine. She wakes me up - a bit too early, as cats do…-, I get out of bed (if I don’t respond, she’ll demolish the bedroom), and feed her. Then I’ll jump into bed again.

A few minutes later the cat will come back to the bedroom, jumps on the night stand - my side of the bed of course - and taps on my shoulder. It’s her sign that I have to lift the duvet. She then sneaks underneath it, curls up and together we snooze for a while.

😾Today I broke this routine. After feeding her, I didn’t go back to bed, but got dressed. Cat looked at me in utter disbelief “How dare you break our routine”. I broke our daily routine as I created a new daily routine myself.

The last week I went for at least 2 walks per day, went to bed between 21.30 and 22.00 and planned and prepped meals (protein-rich breakfasts). It made me feel so good and realised I prefer to go for an early morning walk instead of a walk in the late afternoon or evening.

Hence the cat situation this morning.

🧐 Research shows having a daily routine significantly reduces stress, improves sleep quality, and leads to healthier eating habits. It provides structure, helps manage time effectively, and can enhance overall mental well-being.

A daily routine can include daily walks, or a fixed time to go to bed, or certain mealtimes.

✅ The benefits:
* Consistent sleep schedules are crucial for better rest.
* When well-rested better choices are made.
* Meal planning and prepping are supporting healthier food choices.
* You feel more in control with a routine/plan - less stress!
* Going outside during daylight is a mood booster.

And did you know that small, consistent habits lead to larger lifestyle changes over time? All the more reason to find small tweaks to your days.

What is your daily routine? Which part of your routine is sacred to you? And you would like to share that one with me, as it might be beneficial to me too?

📸 Our cat during evening routine. Yes, she’s allowed to sleep on our bed at night. Funny thing is: when we aren’t in there, she won’t be there either.

Why You Need A Good Break 🪫👉🔋

Just came back from 5 weeks away (not just holiday btw).

🌱 The result of this extended break:
- reset nervous system - at ease & at peace
- feeling restored
- filled with inspiration
- being present

At the beginning I wanted to stay very active on social media.
I even created a 30-day social media plan to give my online presence a boost, with the plan to post daily during my stay abroad 🫣

Let me tell you this: before leaving I already was drained and edgy. The idea of daily posts was daunting but I felt I had to.

Soon I became aware that I was in dire need of a real break. Why? Well, I needed two days and lots of ChatGPT to get a ‘not fully happy with it, but this will do the job’ post out there.

As my job is all about , I practiced what I preach.
* Take a break.
* Prioritise my wellbeing.
* No work.
* No posting on social media.

It did feel scary to let go.
I was anxious about it.
I worried about my online visibility

⚖️ And at the same time I knew I had to disconnect to reconnect. To go from 20% to at least 80%. Because how can you be resilient when energy levels are extremely low.

So… guapas y guapos…
✅ When you are on holidays, do switch off.
✅ When feeling edgy, drained and exhausted, create a break.

💝 You need it. You deserve it. You will benefit from it.

What do you do when you are on holiday? Fully disconnect or still connected to work?

What do you do when you need a break? Continue working or taking some time off?

📸 You can take the girl out of The Netherlands, but you can’t take The Netherlands out of the girl 😄 🚲

Why Resilience Isn’t Optional for Legal Professionals

🥴 Chronic stress can lead to fatigue, brain fog, short tempers, physical issues and burnout. It can show up as more sick days, less patience with loved ones, and that constant feeling of being “on edge”.

Stress itself isn’t the enemy. In fact, a certain level of pressure can sharpen focus and performance.

⚖️ The problem starts when the balance is off. When the demands of work outweigh the abilities we have to recover, reset, and protect our wellbeing, stress doesn’t stay in the office.
🏠 It comes home with you, sits at the dinner table, disrupts relationships and even steals your sleep.

🤝 As a coach - who got burnt out in a previous career and needed a long time to recover - my mission nowadays is to help avoid burnout and its far-reaching consequences. I focus on building resilience.

I truly believe you can perform at a high level and live a life that feels connected, healthy, and rewarding.

This is where resilience becomes essential.
It’s not a “nice to have,” it’s a must have.
Develop the mental, emotional, and practical tools to meet challenges without sacrificing your health, values, or personal life.

🌱 A resilient mind allows you to:

* Respond rather than react under pressure
* Maintain healthier relationships at home and at work
* Recover faster from setbacks and demanding periods
* Reduce illness, exhaustion, and emotional overload
* Build a sustainable career with long-term fulfilment

The legal profession is not for the faint-hearted. Long hours, high stakes, demanding clients, and deadlines. All while being expected to stay calm, sharp, and impeccably professional. (No pressure there…)

❓ How would your relationships, health, and career benefit if you had better tools to handle pressure?

Why Slowing Down Can Be the Best Way to Speed Up

In a world that constantly pushes us to go faster, do more, and never rest, it can be hard to believe that slowing down might actually be the key to achieving more.

Sometimes, the best way to speed up is by taking a step back.

When we’re overwhelmed, running on empty, and trying to juggle a million things at once, we end up losing focus, making more mistakes, and feeling burned out. Our productivity, creativity, and energy all suffer in the long run.

Taking a moment to pause, breathe, and recharge allows you to regain clarity, reduce stress, and make decisions with intention and purpose. It helps you avoid a burnout and create the mental space you need to move forward with renewed energy.

This doesn’t mean you’re weak or uncommitted. Quite the opposite: it means you’re wise enough to know that in order to thrive in the long run, you need to care for yourself first.

So, if you’re feeling the pressure, remember: Taking time to slow down might be exactly what you need to speed up.

🌱 Take care of yourself. Recharge. You’ll come back stronger, clearer, and ready to tackle whatever’s ahead.

Fear of Failure and Fear of Vulnerability vs. Fear of Slowing Down

Lawyers often face 3 deep fears:
* Fear of Failure – A single mistake can erase years of credibility.
* Fear of Vulnerability – The legal world rewards certainty and confidence, making it hard to show doubt or ask for help.
* Fear of Slowing Down – Taking time to recharge feels like falling behind, but pushing through stress only increases mistakes.

1️⃣ Fear of Failure – A single mistake can be costly and can undo years of competence and credibility. The pressure to be flawless is constant, and it can feel like your worth is measured solely by your outcomes, billable hours, or titles.

2️⃣ Fear of Vulnerability – The legal profession often rewards confidence and control, leaving little room for expressing doubt or asking for help. Showing vulnerability can feel like admitting weakness, and many lawyers learn to armour up, even when that shield becomes heavy and exhausting.

3️⃣ Fear of Slowing Down – The worry that taking a break or slowing down will make you fall behind, disappoint your team, or miss important details. You might fear it will be seen as a lack of commitment or dedication. But pushing through at all costs can lead to burnout and decreased performance.

🌱 As part of my research for my Resilient Legal Minds program, I’ve spoken with many lawyers and found that these fears are all too common. But the solution isn’t about working harder or longer. It’s about slowing down. True resilience comes from knowing when to pause, ask for support, and prioritise your well-being. Only then you can perform at your best.

Resilience in law is about sustainability: build a career you can thrive in without losing yourself along the way.

👉 Want to thrive in law without burning out? I invite you to join my Resilient Legal Minds program, starting March 9th. It’s a 4-week online group program designed to help you build the inner strength, clarity, and confidence you need to prevent burnout and lead with resilience.

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take the time to refill yours. 💖

We often feel guilty for prioritising self-care, but here’s the truth: you can’t give your best to others if you’re running on empty. It’s an advice I give to myself as a therapeutic coach, but also to my clients.

In a world that constantly asks for more of your time, energy, and attention, it’s easy to forget that you can’t keep giving without first replenishing what you’ve given away. You are not a machine, and your well-being matters.

It’s okay to step back, take a deep breath, and take care of yourself. Refilling your cup isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Too often, we feel guilt when we prioritise our own needs. We think we should always be available, always be giving, always be doing. But here’s the truth: when you neglect your own needs, you risk burning out and losing the ability to show up fully for others.

Self-care isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. Whether it’s resting, saying “no” to extra obligations, spending time doing what you love, or simply taking a few quiet moments for yourself, those small acts of care are what allow you to continue being the loving, strong, and resilient person you are.

So let go of the guilt. Refilling your cup doesn’t make you any less capable, any less caring, or any less important. In fact, when you nourish yourself, you are better equipped to give from a place of fullness, love, and strength.

Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take the time to refill yours.

You deserve it. 💫

Why Is My Mind Still Working at 2 AM?

You finished work hours ago.
The laptop is closed. The emails have stopped.

🕑 So why is your mind still arguing with itself at 2 AM?

Because the work doesn’t always leave quietly. Their brains keep running through cases, meetings, and to-dos. This is something I hear often from clients.

Sounds familiar?

😵‍💫 It’s called rumination. The problem? It keeps your nervous system in “on” mode, triggering stress that affects sleep, mood, and health.

Don’t Wait Until Burnout Hits

Stress isn’t just “in your head.” It’s in your body too. It can lead to chronic exhaustion, brain fog, weakened immune system, and high blood pressure.

Constant stress affects your productivity and overall well-being.

Stress can be a silent killer, and you owe it to yourself - and your clients - to keep your mind and body in balance.

Your work is important, but so are you. 🫵

So, if you’re still wide awake at 2 AM, know that you’re not alone. Give yourself permission to reset, to log off.  It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being kind to yourself and creating space for your mind to rest. That’s resilience too.

🌱 Remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take the time to refill yours.🥤

Respond, Don’t React

🌱 “Use your emotions or your emotions use you.”
I heard this phrase during my Master’s in NLP, and it truly stuck with me.

For a long time, I did the opposite.
I responded from emotion. My emotions were using me: driving my reactions, my decisions, and affecting my stress levels.
I thought that was just part of being under pressure. Part of caring. Part of high performance. It burnt me out, gave me high blood pressure, and I felt I wasn’t in charge of my life.

But here’s what I learned: you can feel deeply and stay in control.

You’re absolutely allowed to feel everything – please do. We’re humans, not robots.

The shift happens when those emotions no longer overtake you or unconsciously influence your responses. Because when you start using your emotions as information, rather than letting them run the show, you are in control.

💪 This is emotional leadership.

I’ve experienced it personally and seen it happen to my clients. Once you lead your emotional state and respond thoughtfully instead of reacting automatically, everything changes.
- Relationships improve – any relationship
- Decisions become clearer and more strategic
- Trust and credibility increase
- Communication strengthens
- Confidence under pressure grows
- Opportunities expand
- Burnout loses its grip

💡 A simple practice to build emotional leadership.

The next time you feel triggered:
1. Pause and take 3 slow breaths
2. Name the emotion silently: “This is frustration / pressure / anxiety.”
3. Ask: “What response puts me back in control?”
4. Respond – or choose to wait.

That pause is where resilience is built.

One of my New Year’s resolutions:
👉 Master letting emotions inform me – not control me.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

If you find it difficult to stick to them after a few weeks: check out the tips in my post ‘Imagine Leading Your Practice/Day With Clarity and Composure’.

2026. A new year.

To me a new year is like a new chapter of the book ‘My Life’.

🌟 One never start the new year entirely “anew.” Because we bring last year’s moments, challenges, and lessons with us. But those experiences shape this new year’s chapter. The lessons we’ve learned, the knowledge we have gained, the growth we’ve made, and even the struggles we’ve faced - these become the inspiration for the next chapter. 📖

So, may the days of this new year - this new chapter - be kind and soft, yet invigorating and full of adventure. May they inspire you, bring you and your dear ones good health, and fill your heart with love.
Most of all, may they bring a smile to your face - no matter what twists come your way.

Here’s to writing a chapter that you’ll look back on with pride. ✨

Imagine Leading Your Practice/Day With Clarity and Composure

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine this…
✨ Starting your day feeling grounded
✨ Moving through work with focus, feeling composed, in control and calm
✨ Ending the day with energy left for you

As we enter a new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on your professional goals and personal well-being. For many legal professionals - whether you’re a lawyer, paralegal, or barrister - the daily demands can be overwhelming, all while trying to maintain a sense of balance in your personal life.

Your dreams and career goals matter, but so does your well-being. You deserve a healthy work-life balance that allows you to be at your best for both your clients and yourself.

⚖️ This year, let’s set ourselves up for success by prioritizing clarity, resilience, and mental well-being. You deserve to thrive in your career and your personal life. It’s not about working harder, it’s about working with balance, support, and a clear mind.

Here are a few practical tips to help you create that balance and stick to your New Year’s resolutions for a healthier, happier year:

1️⃣ Start Your Day with Intention

2️⃣ Build Consistent Routines

3️⃣ Go Outside

4️⃣ Fuel Your Body with Nourishing Food

5️⃣ Set Realistic Boundaries

6️⃣ Accountability and Support

💡 Many professionals I work with are high-achieving, deeply committed – and quietly exhausted. My clients come to me for clarity, practical tools, accountability, and support — and together we work to reduce stress, anxiety, and burnout so they can meet the demands of the legal profession with confidence and composure.

Are you ready to lead your practice—and your life—with clarity and composure this year?

🌟 Wishing you a balanced, inspiring and energising 2026 🌟
