Combining macular tomography and nonmydriatic retinography in diabetic retinopathy screening allowed to measure macular thickening and the anatomical signs of DME, increasing the sensitivity of DME detection to 88.3%, aside from reducing false non-DMEs and nonassessable images. In addition, the evaluability and gradeability of DR remained unaltered.
