Botulinum Toxin Injection for Facial Wrinkles

Botulinum toxin injection for treatment of facial wrinkles is the most frequently performed cosmetic procedure.
Botox injection particularly in the upper one-third of the face, offers predictable results, has few adverse effects, and is associated with high patient satisfaction.
Mechanism of Action
Wrinkles are formed by dermal atrophy and repetitive contraction of underlying facial musculature. Injection of small quantitied of botulinum toxin into specific overactive muscles causes localized muscle relaxation that smooths the overlying skin and reduces wrinkles.
Botulinum toxin is a potent neurotoxin protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It exerts its effect at the neuromuscular function by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, which causes temporary chemical denervation.

Treatment of Hyperhidrosis with Botulinum Toxin A

Focal hypirhidrosis of axillae, palms or soles is a frequent, socially debilitating condition, triggered by various emotional stimuli.
Local intradermal injections of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A), a neurotoxin blocking the cholinergic stimulus of eccrine sweat glands, offer an effective treatment option with few side- effects.
The affected area is first visualized whith iodine starch staining. Then 50-200 units of Botox are injected intradermally; the dose is divided into 10-15 aliquots injected at spatial intervals of approximately 2cm, enough to cover the entire affected area. Injection in the axillae is usually well tolerated without anesthesia.
The anhidrotic effect of BTX-A, which can be perceived after 2-4 days, is usually very satisfying
