Earlier this year in January 2018, Luis and I embarked on a much needed vacation. Our destination was Sri Lanka. We were inspired to travel to this destination after we met one of the Live in carers that was caring for my mother ( who has lived with progressive Multiple Sclerosis for the past 35 years) . Irma, from holland described her travels and life in Sri Lanka at the time of Tsunami when she had set up a charity helping to rebuild villages. She had much enthusiasm and just from her passion about this beautiful country, we set our goal on travelling there. Irma would meet up with us a week later.
Irma informed us that the best way to fully experience the Country of Sri Lanka, was to hire a driver and a Guide. After many e.mails, I felt a connection the “Chamith” . After our conference calls we were drawn to him , especially because he practised yoga, he had a spiritual connection and he was Buddhist. He would tailor make our vacation after listening to what we desired out of a Vacation. He and Sugeewa our driver took us off the beaten trach to discover the true essence of Sri Lanka and the many buddhist Temples. It was during this vacation that the spiritual energies that had been shelved for some time came back to the fore. We connected to Chamith and Sugeewa, who even today are like “brothers”.
We were invited to an audience with buddhist monks deep in the jungle, We could ask them any question about life, and they shared their interpretations. We were blessed many times by priests and monks, invited to ceremonies and blessings. Shantha took us to one of the gem centres where we were introduced to the many gems and crystals native to the island and country of Sri Lanka. Sapphire is the stone for September and star sapphire for August. To celebrate our 12 years together we hade two rings made with 2 sapphires and 1 star sapphire. It was only afterwards that we discovered the spiritual meanings of the sapphire and the star sapphire.
