The Art of saying No!

What if you could finally know how to set your boundaries, truly understanding that having them will release you from the constant deals and mind games you play over and over?

What if you could say NO! Know when to say NO and know that saying NO was more helpful and beneficial for everyone?

Wouldn’t it be good to say NO and not spend the next 24 hours churning over the potential consequences and catastrophic scenarios and inner resentments we can so easily feel and imagine? It has to feel better, right?

If you´re fed up with your inner doormat, then get in touch for a chat.

15 valuable lessons from Boundaries: Where You End and I Begin - How to Recognize and Set Healthy Boundaries by Anne Katherine:

1. Understand your boundaries: Boundaries are the limits you set between yourself and others. They help to define who you are and what you are willing to accept.

2. Recognize boundary violations: Boundary violations occur when someone crosses your limits. This can happen in a variety of ways, such as physical touch, verbal abuse, or emotional manipulation.

3. Set clear boundaries: Once you recognize boundary violations, it is important to set clear boundaries with the person who is violating them. This means communicating your limits in a direct and assertive way.

4. Enforce your boundaries: After you set your boundaries, it is important to enforce them. This means following through with the consequences you have set if your boundaries are crossed.

5. Be prepared to say no: It is okay to say no to requests that make you uncomfortable or that you do not want to do. Saying no is not selfish; it is about respecting your own boundaries.

6. Don't make excuses: When you set boundaries, don't feel the need to make excuses for yourself. You have the right to set boundaries without explanation.

7. Don't be afraid to walk away: If someone is repeatedly violating your boundaries, it is okay to walk away from the relationship. It is not worth your time and energy to be in a relationship with someone who does not respect you.

8. Forgive yourself for past boundary violations: We all make mistakes, and that includes violating our own boundaries. If you have made mistakes in the past, forgive yourself and move on.

9. Learn from your mistakes: Reflect on what went wrong in past situations where your boundaries were violated. This will help you to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

10. Be patient with yourself: It takes time to learn to set and enforce healthy boundaries. Don't expect to become a boundary expert overnight. Just keep practicing and you will eventually get there.

11. Find support: Talk to friends, family, or a therapist about your struggles with boundaries. Having support from others can make a big difference.

12. Educate yourself: Read books and articles about boundaries. The more you know about boundaries, the better equipped you will be to set and enforce your own.

13. Practice self-care: Take care of your physical and emotional health. This will help you to have the strength and resilience to set and enforce healthy boundaries.

14. Believe in yourself: You are capable of setting and enforcing healthy boundaries. Believe in yourself and don't give up.

15. Remember that you deserve to be happy and healthy: You deserve to live a life that is free from boundary violations. Don't settle for anything less.

By following these lessons, you can learn to set and enforce healthy boundaries, which will lead to a more fulfilling and happy life.

Positive Phrasing and How to Get What You Want!

When seeking changes for self we often use internal dialogue or affirmations which actually can have the opposite effect to what we are trying to achieve

How we phrase our wants and wishes really can have an effect on our eventual success towards our goals.

Some of you may already have heard the expression ´you get what you wish for´ or often find ourselves saying when things don´t work out as we´d have wished ¨´I knew that would happen.¨

The difficulty with our sub-conscious mind is that it will focus on things which have the presence of emotion, intensity of interest, no conscious objection, are unambiguous and….here´s the kiddy, phrased either positively OR negatively.

So, if, for example, you wish to lose weight, your self-talk can dramatically alter the outcome.
If you say:
“I don´t want to be fat”
“I don´t want to eat cake”
“I´m not going to drive to work”
Then you are predisposing the subconscious to focus on ´fat´ ´cake´ and ´driving.´

Subconscious says…”Your wish is my command! Doh!“
As we know, you get what you focus on….hmmmm, not easy!

Positively phrasing that which you really want is really an additional and subtle aid to reaching your goals. So, let´s look at wanting to lose weight again and how we might phrase affirmations to ourselves and what our internal dialogue should be looking (sounding) like.

´I want to be slim and healthy´
´I want to make healthy, varied food choices´
´I want to walk to work´ or ´I want to take more exercise´

Working on the basis that we get what we focus on then it´s easy to see here that the focus is on ´slim and healthy´ ´healthy varied food choices´ and ´more exercise.´

Subconscious says….your wish is my command! Hooray!

So maybe just check in with your self-talk and listen to what you might really be saying and, if you find you are negatively phrasing or predisposing your subconscious to focus on the things you don´t want to happen, then maybe find some alternatives you can use to give yourself the extra edge when it comes to achieving your goals.
Think about what you do want to happen and on how you want things to be, rather than on the things you don´t want.
Always here if you need assistance. Just get in touch. In the meanwhile, why not have a think about what you WANT!
Have a great day!
Rachael
