Did you know your breath is one of the simplest ways to boost your wellness every day?
When you breathe in, your heart rate speeds up just a bit; when you breathe out, it slows down. This natural rhythm helps improve something called heart rate variability (HRV), which is basically your body’s ability to handle stress and bounce back stronger. Taking slow, deep breaths—around 5 to 7 per minute—can actually raise your HRV, calming your nervous system and sharpening your focus. Plus, deep belly breathing strengthens your lungs, making it easier to get more oxygen to your brain and muscles, which means more energy and less breathlessness. On top of that, mindful breathing helps lower cortisol—the stress hormone—so even just 5 minutes can ease anxiety and reduce blood pressure.
Breathing out slowly also activates your vagus nerve, kicking your body into “rest and digest” mode for better mood, digestion, and less inflammation. In short, better breathing = better living, for longer.
