Evidence from a new Lancet Series suggests diets high in ultra-processed foods ( ) are linked to:
🔹Overeating and higher energy intake,
🔹poor nutritional quality (too much sugar, salt and unhealthy fats; and too little fibre, protein, and certain micronutrients)
🔹and higher exposure to contaminants and potentially harmful additives.
Specific UPF policies can complement existing legislation and improve diets, say authors.
