Almost every great leader, hero, or inspirational person, in real life or fiction, is someone who was reluctantly forced into action by circumstances or abandonment and comes out with enlightenment. Though their individual circumstances may be radically different, a common thread is their desire to make something purposeful out of the painful. Most of these extraordinary people came from humble, adverse, or ordinary beginnings. The life-altering event that may be forcing you out of your comfort zone is loneliness, and the catapult and catalyst that can lead into a place of discovery, recovery, and emergence.
A hero's journey takes revelation, temporary loneliness, wilderness experiences, unusual mentoring, forging unlikely alliances, and sometimes finding true love, but there's more.
They return from where they began, transformed and with a story to tell to inspire others or take their rightful place as a leader who once was an ordinary person.

When you push past the pain and face the fear, courage and connections will come. You may have to venture into more dark and lonely places at times, but you now have the skills to enter the abyss, extract the wisdom, and do whatever it takes to conquer your loneliness.
