Are you trying to improve your nutrition?
And the more you educate yourself,
the more confused you get?

This morning, I’ve had a discovery call with a potential new client.
She's a successful entrepreneur with a full schedule.
She told me exactly that. Where do you even start? 🤔

The deeper you get into the topic, the more confusing it gets.
I’ve been there as well for many years.

Testing expensive supplements.
Being vegetarian for 5 years.
Skipping dinner or breakfast.
Trying all kinds of diets.
Fasting.

The truth about intermittent fasting
and how to get it right ✅

At least once a week, I talk to a potential client who says:
"I never eat before noon and I eat really healthy
but I can't lose weight and my energy is low."

Intermittent fasting is a great tool when done in the right way.

Here's what happens when you fast every morning:
- Stress hormones (already high in the morning at wakeup) increase further
- Food cravings in the second half of the day (and not for 🥦)
- More food later in the day can impact sleep

It's bringing your body into survival mode for the first half of the day
and then restricting yourself in the second half, because you will be hungry.

Here's how to do it right:
- Rather than skipping breakfast, bring your dinner forward.
- Some days don't do fasting at all... and don't worry about it.
- Have a nutrient-rich breakfast: protein, lots of greens and healthy fats.
- Experiment with different durations of fasting windows (13/15/17 hours).

Struggling to have breakfast for whatever reason?
Go for a green smoothie with leafy greens, avocado, cucumber and celery.

Making this one change in my nutrition brought back my energy
and made me feel like myself in my body again

Me in 2020:
- Putting on weight slowly but steadily
- Feeling sluggish all the time
- Hitting afternoon slumps
- Not sleeping well

Me in 2024:
- Feeling better than ever in my body at 52
- Having more energy than in my 30s
- Steady energy levels all day
- Sleeping well for 6 hours (and feeling rested)

The key to all these changes?
Resetting my metabolism.

Our metabolism works like a hybrid car.
When it runs out of sugar, it switches to fatburning.
Most of us no longer know how to do that, as we're always running on sugar.

It's not enough to sugar detox, your body needs to receive the right signals.
Signals that it's safe to release the stored body fat.

It is was that easy, everyone would do that.. instead of getting injections.
There's more to it.

You need to find a way to get back control.
No more stress-related food cravings.
No more biscuits at 5:00pm.
No more yo-yo dieting.

When I was in my 40s, I felt sluggish, bloated and always tired.

Long work days.
A lot of business travel.
Pre-menopause kicking in.
The challenge of being a working mom (single and expat).

I was not feeling like myself any more.
And it was getting worse every year.

A regular day started with me hitting the snooze button several times before dragging myself out of bed.

I avoided the mirror in the bathroom and got under the shower.
Before I went to work, I had a huge cafe latte and some breakfast cereals.

At work, often I didn't take proper breaks and I was eating sandwiches in front of my screen between meetings.

After a long work day, I was so tired that I didn't have energy to do anything. Most days I had a glass of wine to relax and fell asleep on the sofa.

Now at 52, I feel better in my body than ever.

Starting to eat whole, nutrient dense food changed my life completely.
I no longer depend on caffeine and alcohol for energy or relaxation.

Now, on most days, I wake up before the alarm clock, feeling rested.
With more energy, I started to do more exercise.

Doing that salsa/painting/pilates class that you’ve always wanted to do?

For many years, I was exhausted and depleted after work and on weekends. 🪫
No energy left for anything. Even grocery shopping seemed too much.
