Much of what we call “traditional yoga” today is actually quite modern.

Music, flowing sequences, and hundreds of postures are all relatively recent developments in the history of the practice.

This doesn’t make them wrong.
But it does change how we understand yoga.

Most of what yoga does to the body sounds unbelievable — until you look at the physiology.

Breathing patterns influence cardiac function.

The Bhagavad Gita is often quoted for comfort — but its setting is anything but comfortable.

It opens in the middle of a battlefield, at the moment of moral collapse. Arjuna cannot move forward. He cannot go back. And it is there that yoga is introduced.

Not as relaxation.
Not as peace.
But as clarity in the midst of conflict.

The Gita reminds us that yoga is not something we turn to once life is resolved — it is a discipline for moments when nothing feels clear.

This is the context many teachings leave out.
And the one that gives the text its power.

In yogic tradition, prana (life force) flows through nadis (channels) and gathers at chakras (energy centers).

Through asana, pranayama, bandhas and meditation, we clear these pathways so energy can move freely.

This is the subtle side of yoga — invisible, but deeply felt. 💜
