SEPSIS AWARENESS MONTH

September is Sepsis Awareness Month; this year it is also going to be my one year anniversary of surviving sepsis and septic shock.

Before it happened to me I had no idea of the signs to look for, I assumed it was something that just affected older people who were already severely ill. I was very wrong.

Learn to spot the signs, share this post, it could save someone's life.

These are good tips for EVERYBODY, but are especially important when recovering from illness.

🍷Did I need to add that alcohol needs to be in moderation or do we all know that?

💊Diazepam & Xanax💊
-v-
🌱CANNABIS🌱

I’ve spoken to my Dr and he is happy to support me in coming off the 💊 and transitioning to something more natural, I’ve been taking Diazepam and Xanax for 7 months now and came off it a few days ago.

I haven’t slept well since but, unexpectedly, my blood pressure has gone from being dangerously high to nearly normal which I wasn’t expecting. It might not last and might be unrelated but I’m going to keep an eye on it.

The products I’m using are for general wellbeing, controlling inflammation and good sleep.

I started with the prescription drugs because of sleep problems, nightmares and clenching my teeth having nightmares about being in ICU (PTSD). They worked, I just think I’ve been on them too long.

So we can put it to the test now … will it work? I hope so 🙏🏼

I’ve been speaking to a lot of Sepsis Survivors recently and one thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of the signs and symptoms of one thing can be the same as another, and sometimes we focus on just one thing when there’s possibly lots going on.

Remember: you’re not just a Sepsis Survivor, you’re a human.

You can have more than your ‘recovery’ going on.

🥗 Maybe you’re not eating right and that’s causing some symptoms to become worse.

😢 Maybe you’re isolating and the lack of human connection / fresh air / sunlight / movement is making things more difficult to deal with.

🧬 Maybe your hormones have taken a hit and you just can’t be bothered keep up with self care … or your anxiety is so bad that you can’t think straight.

🦠 Maybe the infection that caused the sepsis is still there and causing you problems.

Keep an open mind, and keep up with your self care 😁

Your recovery from sepsis won’t always be obvious, both to you and other people.

🧡 Some people will say “well you look ok now”
when inside you feel awful. They won’t see
what you’re going through.

🧡 Sometimes you yourself won’t realise how
far you’ve come until you look at where you
were a few months ago.

Things to look out for in the first 6 months post sepsis:

✅ The day facial recognition works on your phone again.

✅ The day you can hold something heavier than a few kilos.

✅ The day you can read, and remember, a piece of text.

✅ The day you can walk without assistance.

✅ The day you can climb stairs without assistance.

✅ The day your hair starts growing back

✅ The day you remember what you’re supposed to be
doing without having to look at a diary.

✅ The day you can take the dog for a walk.

✅ The day you realise your headache has gone.

✅ The morning you wake up after a good sleep with
no nightmares.

✅ The day you don’t dread your medical check up
because things seem a bit better.

✅ The day you don’t dread the day ahead 🧡

🧡 Progress is sometimes
slow, but slow progress
is better than no progress.

🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
