Homestead Vlog 🌱

This weekend we finally got stuck into the vegetable garden. After spending over €200 on our weekly food shop, it gave us the push we needed to really make this year’s garden work, so we can rely less on plastic-wrapped, chemical-heavy supermarket food and start enjoying more of our own homegrown veggies.

We headed into our local village to pick up some veggie plugs to get us started while we wait for our organic seeds to germinate. Of course, we couldn’t resist stopping at our favourite little café for coffee and cake before heading home.

Once back, we got to work layering up the beds with plant matter, old soil, fresh compost, and a generous helping of horse manure, the good stuff!

We’ve got four raised beds in total. Two are now planted up, and we’ll be working on the rest throughout the week.

Everyone meet Hazel.

I was on a call with someone I work with earlier and my cat Rani brought this baby bunny in and dropped her at my feet, alive…. 😅

‘Hazel’ which the girls have since named her then proceeded to bu**er off into the kitchen and hide under the shelves. A few hours later, Jack managed to get Hazel from her hiding spot and now we have a temporary pet rabbit …. The girls have 100% manifested this 😅

Veggie garden update 🌱

It feels so good to step away from the renovations for a moment and get back into the garden… to reconnect with the real reason we moved to Spain in the first place, to live a more self-sufficient life.

Some days get so full with building work, business, and parent life that it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. But the second I’m back with the soil, planting seeds, and grounding into nature… I remember exactly why we chose this path.

I don’t think true 100% self-sufficiency is ever fully achievable, but becoming more self-reliant, growing our own food, and depending less on the system? That feels like freedom to me.

And that’s what we’re building, one step (and seed) at a time 🌿
