This Catalan tradition, the calçotada, has spread across the whole of Catalonia, and I asked a few locals where it started. The sauce for calçots, romesco, is my favourite. I buy it all year round and dip my vegetables in it.

Have you ever heard of a calçotada?

By the way, you should peel the first layer in one go… but I’m doing it in parts 😅

Roslena is a little café in Reus, and it has a lovely salad bar. I tried their pumpkin salad and it was great, even though that many green leaves are not usually my favorite. I’d give it 8 out of 10.

This salad was the large one, and the price was €6.30, which I though was good.

What´s you favorite type of salads?

This year's first bike ride to Montblanc today. It was +21 in the shade. Felt like + 25 I'm the sun. ☀️

I visited Tarragona’s biggest street market called Bona Vista a few weeks ago, super quickly. I didn’t have time to explore the food section at all. Next time I’ll go with more time.

There were of course lots of clothes, but also other home items like lamps, blankets, mattresses and pillows.

Some were good brands, and lots of the clothes are from clearance sales when a shop closes or when they change their clothing line to a new one. So they are able to keep the prices very low.

I wonder if this is the reason why you don’t see so many flea markets, as new clothes are so cheap as well.

Whats your thoughts about street markets?

I feel today is first day of the spring. I'm a person who loves light and warmth, so this is the perfect time for me.

I tried to post this yesterday but the internet has other plans. 😃 Anyway here's clips from weekend carneval.

Carnaval is one of the oldest celebrations in Europe, with roots going back to Roman and medieval times.

It was originally a festival of freedom before Lent, a time when people could dress up, play different roles, and turn the world upside down for a few days.

In Catalonia, Carnaval is about: Creativity and humour. Saying goodbye to winter and welcoming the lighter season ahead.

Each village has its own traditions, but the heart is always the same: people coming together to celebrate life.

I walk every day, but I only hike a few times a month, as we need to drive a few minutes to reach the closest mountains. Walking would already take atleast an hour before even starting the hike.

In these photos I look happy, but you didn’t see me struggling to get up the mountain… and then back down again. The ground was sliding under my feet, and there were very few places to hold on to. It was steep, tricky, and not really a proper path. So no photos as I was just trying not to fall.

But I didn’t fall, so all good 😄
And even the hard ones are always worth it.

This forest area near our home is part of the Bosque Pintado de Poblet, in the Castellfollit woods within the Paraje Natural de Poblet, a beautiful protected natural area by the mountains.

We have visted the area with our yoga holiday students. 🧘‍♀️

It’s famous for its painted mushrooms on the trees, created as part of an art and nature trail by artist Genís Colell to make walking the trail fun and educational.

We had a nice hike in the forest near the Castellfollit area. We didn’t follow the official mushroom route, but we spotted these painted ones along the way.

The woods are so peaceful and beautiful, hardy any other people arpund. Its a lovely place to slow down and enjoy nature. 🌲🍄

Do you enjoy hikes or forest walks?

As January this year has been rainy and cold, it was the perfect time to visit the Gaudí Centre in Reus, just about 30 minutes from us. You can fly to Reus from Stansted just in 2 hours during holiday season. From half way March to end of October.

You must of heard of Antoni Gaudí, the most famous Catalan architect and designer in Spain. He designed La Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Park Güell, Casa Batllo and many other iconic buildings. He was born in Reus, and this museum is dedicated to his life and work.

The centre is a three-floor interactive museum where you get a headset with several language options and audio guides to follow along. It explains about Gaudís life, with audiovisuals, interactive models and a really nice way to explore his ideas.

The fee was €11 and it was advised to buy tickets online in advance. We learned a lot and it was a really enjoyable visit. Here are some photos from our visit.
