Sometimes we find meaning at the least unexpected places.

This is what has happened to me on my vitiligo journey.

When I realised that I belong to those lucky ones who has not only accepted but embraces her vitiligo, I decided to help others.

Part of my mission was to create a children’s book as I believe in the power of early education.
The younger kids learn about vitiligo, the kinder and more empathetic future we’ll live in.

Mila’s Adventure In Skin City takes the readers on a magical journey inside the skin, where they learn about how vitiligo develops and why it’s nothing to fear.
Through the journey of Mila, children see how understanding turns fear into confidence and kindness.

5 years ago I was living in the UK. I was working in the restaurant that we opened with my friends. I was happy, worry-free and stable.

So was my skin. my vitiligo was sitting quietly on my skin. No changes, no spread. Just waiting.

Then one disaster came after the other. One of them was the cancer diagnosis of my sister. Suddenly everything changed. Everything became scary. I started to fear the worst. I changed.

So did my skin. My vitiligo started to spread. My sis got worse. Did I bother of my skin? No. It was the least I was worried about. Eventually we lost her. Everything has changed.

So did I. And the way I thought about my skin. It’s healthy, it just looks different. We all look different. There are two things that are certain. Nothing is perfect and everything changes. This is how I found peace. This is my wabi-sabi.

And this gave me a new purpose. To help others feel comfortable in their skin. To find their new peace.

This is how I ended up creating a vitilig children’s book. Cause we all deserve to enjoy our time in our unique body. 🌼

Most people know Wabisabi as a form of interior design style. And they love it.

Its imperfections, its impermanence and the fact that it celebrates being different.

I love Wabisabi style.
And I realised how much we have in common. I let it shape how I see myself and feel in my skin. And it helped me a lot.

Everyone’s vitiligo journey is different. But we have one thing in common. The way we look at ourselves and live our precious days.

So either you’re waiting for your treatment to work or you’ve been disappointed in the options available, you can always take tiny baby steps to feel better in your skin.

When you live with autoimmune conditions, it’s important to feed yourself with nutritious anti-inflammatory meals.

Now this is what I call supporting my body with the right food.

It’s the remake of the famous cauliflower steak on white beans paste with chimichurri. It looks awesome but it taste even better. Not sure how it’s even possible.
