General introduction about Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) From data collection to use Satisfying the current and future needs of the population is at the center of efforts in development goals for which demographic data are fundamental. However, vital registration systems in many countries in sub- Saharan Africa are undeveloped and their coverage is minimal. Some of the challenges to universal coverage of the birth and death registration (BDR) include poor access to facilities and coverage, limited public awareness on the importance of the BDR, human and material resources to maintain the system working.
