Being part of the 6th General Assembly and Women’s Day Celebration of the Ethiopian Medical Women's Association የኢትዮጲያ ሴት ሐኪሞች ማህበር as a panelist for Physicians in Entrepreneurship, representing Kuri Mother’s Health Solution ኩሪ የእናቶች ጤና መፍትሄ, was such a great experience.

As I navigate this transition from clinical practice to entrepreneurship, I had the chance to share a bit of my journey—what led me here, the challenges, and the lessons I’ve learned so far. But more than that, I walked away with so much insight from the other panelists and the audience. Hearing from clinicians in private practice, healthcare researchers, policy advocates, and even medical students made me realize how vast and interconnected our impact can be. The questions from the audience were incredibly thoughtful, sparking new ideas and giving me a lot to reflect on.

The entire event was a beautiful celebration of women in medicine, recognizing outstanding contributions across different categories. From the inspiring breakout sessions to the engaging booths showcasing various initiatives, the day was filled with meaningful conversations and learning opportunities.

Celebrating Dana Jasiri Team Gala Night✨

It has been an incredible 3 months since I joined the Jasiri Residency Program in Rwanda, and I have been fortunate to share this journey with my LinkedIn family.

The Gala Night was a heartfelt celebration of our collective achievements and personal growth. We took time to recognize and appreciate each other for how far we've come. Special awards were given to those who have brightened our team with their exceptional contributions. Nearly completing the Jasiri Talent Investor Program, including the Business Essentials and Residential Intensive Program, and receiving certification was a proud moment for us all.

For me, with a background in health, this venture into the world of business and entrepreneurship has been a new and enlightening journey. While I had some prior experience, this program has expanded my understanding and skills tremendously. I am deeply grateful to the Jasiri administrative team for their unwavering support at every milestone.

Thank you, Biruk Yosef, for the insightful closing remarks and real-life entrepreneurship preparation tips you shared with us.

Entrepreneurship is indeed a challenging path, and it's vital that we lift each other up and support one another.

Attending the Africa HealthTech Summit - AHTS inspired me to start writing about the transformative potential of digital health, the importance of networking, and the "5 P's" framework by Jean Philbert NSENGIMANA (FAPH) that will drive Africa's innovation future. Check it out, and I hope you will get something out of it, especially experts in this area.

Looking back over the past year, I’ve learned so much, and I’m still learning every day.

One major lesson that really stood out to me this year is: be ready for the things you want to become. You never know when the opportunity will come, but when it does, you’ll want to be prepared. That preparation could mean learning new skills, developing the right mindset, or simply staying open to growth. The key is to equip yourself ahead of time so that when the moment comes, you’re ready to step into it fully.

I’ve also learned the importance of saying “yes” to opportunities. Sometimes, they might not seem like the perfect fit at first, but they can lead you to places you never imagined. That said, it’s crucial to strike a balance. Take the opportunities that align with your goals, but also be mindful of your limits. Overwhelm is real, and it can be tempting to hold back out of fear of the unknown, but don’t let that fear stop you from seizing the opportunities that could shape your future.

I’m grateful for another year of growth, reflection, and, yes, becoming a little wiser.

On to the next industry adventure in Rwanda!

My another highlight from Dana team JASIRI trip was visiting Zipline Rwnada, a logistics company that uses drones for medical deliveries. This innovation particularly caught my attention because of its life-saving potential, especially in rural areas where there's often a shortage of blood supplies.

In my work experience, I've seen the tragic outcomes when blood isn't available in emergencies. Mothers have died from postpartum hemorrhage simply because the blood needed for transfusions couldn't reach them in time. Zipline's drone delivery system addresses this critical issue by ensuring that blood and other medical supplies are delivered in minutes rather than hours. It’s a game-changer for rural healthcare.

During our visit, I couldn’t help but imagine how transformative this could be for Ethiopia. If Federal Democratic republic of Ethiopia/Ministry of Health innovation department could see the potential of this technology, we might be able to implement a similar system, drastically improving emergency medical care and saving countless lives.

I hope to see this system adopted across more African countries soon, as many face similar medical delivery challenges.
