CE Launches Sustainable Livelihood Intervention Project in Sendafa Town
Cheshire Ethiopia officially launched its Sustainable Livelihood Intervention Project in Sendafa with a kickoff event attended by key stakeholders, government representatives, and community leaders on May 06, 2025 at Hibritu Hotel. The event marked the beginning of a project aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities through targeted livelihood support and empowerment.
Ato Abel Ahmed, Program Director at Cheshire Ethiopia, opened the event by highlighting the organization's long-standing commitment to serving underserved communities particularly persons with disabilities and their families. According to him, this project aim to empower persons with disabilities and their families economically and socially. CE is pleased to work closely with the Sendafa Town administration and call on all stakeholders to collaborate to bring lasting change.”
Ato Dejene Bedilu, Administration Head of the Mayor’s Office in Sendafa Town, welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the critical role of CE’s Menagesha Rehabilitation Center in providing physical rehabilitation services to the town’s residents. “We fully support this project and are committed to facilitating its successful implementation. All stakeholders are informed and ready to play their part.” he noted.
Ato Tekalign Yimamu, Head of the Bureau of Labor and Social Affairs (BOLSA) in Sendafa Town, emphasized their ongoing partnership with Cheshire Ethiopia. “We have been referring individuals with disabilities to the Menagesha Rehabilitation Center to access prosthetic and orthotic devices and mobility aids,” he said. He expressed their readiness to work closely with the new project to improve lives of persons with disabilities and their families in the community.
The event also featured a presentation by Ato Muhamed Demisew, Project Officer at Cheshire Ethiopia, who provided an overview of the project’s goals, implementation strategies, and the roles of various stakeholders.
The kickoff was attended by more than 18 participants, including representatives from local government, OPDs (Organizations of Persons with Disabilities), and community leaders. All attendees expressed their readiness to collaborate and support the project moving forward.
This initiative represents a significant step in Cheshire Ethiopia’s ongoing mission to promote inclusion and improve the socioeconomic well-being of persons with disabilities in Ethiopia.
