Your recognition of our commitment to expanding access to specialized care is deeply valued. We are privileged to have had the opportunity to showcase our dedication to providing quality healthcare services and our relentless pursuit of continuous improvement.
🏥 A Vision for Excellence and Legacy of Dedication 🏥
Our hospital head, Professor Kebede, outlined that the management is driven by a vision to elevate the quality of medical care for all and an objective to transform our institution from a general hospital to a comprehensive healthcare center. This transformation entails the addition of major subspecialties that hold national significance and contribute significantly to medical education.
He also shared the remarkable journey of his unwavering commitment and dedication to advancing cardiac services and ensuring affordable, high-quality medical care for all. This journey began back in 1988 when, as a young fellow, Prof. Kebede initiated the establishment of a cardiology unit within the Faculty of Medicine at Addis Ababa University. At that time, cardiology services were virtually non-existent. His pioneering efforts not only led to the establishment of distinct, regular cardiac services but also initiated population-based research and comprehensive training programs.
From humble beginnings with just an ECG machine and a used M-Mode ultrasound, AAU Cardiac Unit has evolved into a modern intensive care unit, thanks to his tireless efforts and collaboration with external organizations such as the faith-based US NGO. These efforts paved the way for numerous cardiac missions from abroad, resulting in life-saving open-heart surgeries for over 100 children and young adults. Additionally, this groundwork laid the foundation for the commencement of fellowships in cardiology and the training of cardiac nurses.
With his extensive background and experience, our Managing Director is currently spearheading a team of engineers and architects, both domestic and international, in the construction of a meticulously planned hospital facility. This new hospital will meet the stringent standards of a comprehensive healthcare center, encompassing major subspecialties, including cardiology and cardiothoracic services.

- A 160-bed hospital facility
- 32 ICU beds (for adults, PICU, and NICU)
- 9+ operation tables + a CATH Lab
- A state-of-the-art dialysis center
- Advanced centers for cardiology, Specialized trauma and Orthopedic services, gastroenterology, urology, Otolaryngology services, and more!
