As an Ethiopian health professionals, we are deeply saddened and alarmed by the ongoing acts of xenophobia, violence and the killing of Ethiopians living in South Africa.
Every human life carries equal value.
Targeting, shooting and killing of individuals simply because they are foreign nationals is not only unjustifiable it is a profound violation of human dignity and the fundamental principles we uphold in healthcare and society.
Ethiopians in South Africa are not a threat; they are hardworking individuals seeking safety, opportunity and a better future. Many contribute positively to their communities, just as South Africans have done across the African continent.
Our shared African history reminds us of unity and solidarity. Figures like Nelson Mandela stood for justice, equality and the dignity of all people values that must not be forgotten in moments like this.
we urge all stakeholders community leaders, authorities and citizens to take immediate action to stop the violence, protect innocent lives and promote peaceful coexistence.
As health professionals, we are committed to preserving life, not witnessing its destruction.
Violence against any African is violence against all of us.
Let us stand for humanity, compassion and unity.
