Antibiotic-resistant bacteria pose a growing worldwide threat. According to WHO’s Global Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance Report 2025, approximately 1 in 6 laboratory-confirmed bacterial infections worldwide in 2023 were caused by bacteria resistant to antibiotics. The report also indicates that, for urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by E. coli and K. pneumoniae, resistance to commonly prescribed antibiotics generally exceeded 30% worldwide.

Reducing unnecessary antibiotic use is crucial to prevent the development of . Uricult is a culture based dipslide method used as an aid in the diagnosis of UTIs. Uricult, Uricult Plus, and Uricult Trio help to narrow down the infecting bacteria for making an informed treatment decision.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria: a growing worldwide threat

Antimicrobial resistance ( ), also known as the , is one of the top global public health and development threats. According to a recently published report by the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2023 approximately 1 in 6 laboratory-confirmed bacterial infections worldwide were caused by bacteria resistant to antibiotics.

In healthcare, optimising antibiotic use is critical to prevent further development of AMR: decreasing antibiotic overuse and providing antibiotics to those patients who benefit from the treatment.

C-reactive protein ( ) point-of-care testing ( ) is considered as a key player in healthcare to guide rational use of antibiotics and prevent the development of . CRP POCT has several benefits in management of patients with respiratory tract infections in primary care:

✅ provides immediate results for faster decisions
✅ increases diagnostic certainty for physicians
✅ targets antibiotic use for those patients who truly benefit from the treatment
✅ reduces antibiotic use by approximately 23% in acute respiratory tract infections

🌍 November 14 is World Diabetes Day

Diabetes is one of the fastest-growing health challenges of our time.
📊 589 million adults (1 in 9) were living with diabetes in 2024 – and this number is projected to reach 853 million by 2050. Alarmingly, 43% of people with diabetes remain undiagnosed highlighting the urgent need to strengthen early detection efforts.

Glycated haemoglobin ( ) test helps to monitor long-term blood glucose control in diabetic patients, and it also supports the identification of people at risk of developing diabetes. Regular check-ups of average blood sugar levels are crucial to detect prediabetes or diabetes early.

We support better diabetes care through our point-of-care HbA1c testing, and want to highlight the importance of early detection and effective management.
