With over two decades of leadership experience in diagnostics and life sciences, Tarja brings a strong background in global R&D, program management, and delivering innovative solutions in regulated environments. Her previous roles have equipped her with deep expertise in managing complex, strategic development programs and leading cross-functional teams.

🌍 We’re proud to be part of the UTI-Diag project — a collaborative, multisectoral initiative aimed at improving the diagnostics of urinary tract infections (UTIs). The project aims to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use and combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR), while also enhancing access, adoption, and implementation of novel diagnostic tools, especially in low-resource settings.

Coordinated by Karolinska Institutet and funded by the European Union (EDCTP3) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), UTI-Diag project brings together 11 partner organizations across Europe and Africa to address a growing public health challenge.

Supporting global health equity and innovation in diagnostics is close to our heart. This project is especially meaningful to us – our Uricult® test for UTI diagnostics was launched already back in 1968, and we’re proud to continue contributing to better care today.

Last week, from 12–15 June 2025, we had the pleasure of participating in the Congress of the Society of General Practitioners of Slovakia (SVLS) – the largest medical event of the year in Slovakia.

Our latest product launch, the QuikRead go Plus Instrument, generated strong interest among specialists in the field of general medicine.

This year’s congress focused on current topics in cardiology – including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in primary care – alongside expert lectures, engaging discussions, and valuable opportunities to exchange experiences.

V dňoch 12. – 15. júna 2025 sme sa zúčastnili Kongresu Spoločnosti všeobecných lekárov Slovenska (SVLS) v Jasnej, najväčšieho a najprestížnejšieho medicínskeho podujatia roka na Slovensku. Prezentovali sme našu novinku – prístroj QuikRead go Plus Instrument, ktorý vzbudil veľký záujem medzi odborníkmi z oblasti všeobecného lekárstva.

Hlavnou témou tohto ročníka boli aktuálne otázky z oblasti kardiológie, vrátane prevencie, diagnostiky a liečby kardiovaskulárnych ochorení v primárnej starostlivosti. Podujatie zároveň ponúklo množstvo odborných prednášok, diskusií a priestor na výmenu skúseností medzi všeobecnými lekármi.

New study highlights the potential of CRP POCT to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in neonatal care

Neonatal infections are a leading cause of death and long-term disability, especially in premature and very low birthweight infants. Diagnosing these infections is challenging, especially in the low resource settings often leading to prolonged and unnecessary antibiotic use that contributes to .

A recent prospective observational study published in BMC Pediatrics evaluated a novel decision-making tool that combines clinical signs with C-reactive protein (CRP) point-of-care testing (POCT). The tool uses ’s QuikRead go easy CRP to guide antibiotic treatment in very low birthweight infants with suspected healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

The study showed that combination of clinical score and CRP POCT resulted in:
✅ 98.3% sensitivity and 97.8% specificity for identifying infections
✅ 2-day overall reduction in antibiotic treatment duration
✅ 40.7% of antibiotic courses could potentially have been safely avoided

This tool offers a practical way to support in neonatal units, especially in low-resource settings where access to diagnostics is limited. Rapid CRP POCT with QuikRead go easy CRP enabled faster, more informed decisions helping clinicians treat confidently and minimize unnecessary antibiotic exposure.
