💚 Docrates opened its Stockholm clinic on Wednesday 💚

Docrates expanded in Sweden and opened a new clinic in Stockholm on Wednesday. Swedish patients can now access cancer specialists more quickly and continue, if necessary, on the diagnostic and treatment path at Docrates Cancer Centre in Helsinki. Docrates has treated Swedish patients for a long time: over 2,000 Swedish patients have sought treatment in Finland, with 40 percent coming from the Stockholm region.

"Swedish patients can now meet our team in their own country and discuss cancer diagnostics and treatments with experienced professionals. Many patients find these conversations beneficial, even if treatments are carried out elsewhere, as cancer is a serious and complex disease with constantly evolving treatment methods. Patients at the Swedish clinic also have the opportunity to access the latest science-based cancer treatments in Helsinki. I am pleased that we can now roll up our sleeves and meet the first patients. We are, quite literally, on a lifelong mission," says Renske Altena, Chief Physician at the Stockholm clinic.

Breast reconstruction surgery means meticulous craftsmanship by experienced surgeons.

Reconstructing a removed breast is part of the treatment path of many breast cancer patients. The goal of the surgery is to replace the removed breast tissue with the patient’s own tissue or artificial material. Reconstructive surgery can be performed either in connection with cancer surgery or later, after the cancer treatments.

At Docrates Cancer Center, patients have quick access to surgery. The extensive and diverse expertise of our experienced surgeons enables us to select the most appropriate type of surgery for each patient and, thus, ensure the best possible outcome.

Docrates Cancer Center expands to Stockholm

Founded in 2007, Docrates Cancer Center is renowned for its specialisation in diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up care of patients with cancer. It is the only private hospital of its sort in northern Europe.

At the end of March 2025, Docrates Cancer Center will open a clinic in Stockholm offering Swedish patients' fast access to consultations and tailored treatment plans.

“Docrates provides its patients with world-class diagnostics and the latest medical care while maintaining a very human approach, supporting the patient every step of the way. We all know that waiting for the treatment after diagnosis can be mentally challenging, and having an opportunity to discuss about the treatment possibilities with a specialist provides needed reassurance for patients. The patients can choose to receive their entire treatment journey at Docrates, or just a part of it, such as the diagnosis or the latest evidence-based treatments that can’t be accessed yet elsewhere,” says Chief Clinical Director, Dr Renske Altena.

Docrates Cancer Center published its 2023 annual review.

In 2023, Docrates Cancer Center promoted its strategy by investing in larger facilities, developing services related to the early detection of cancer and recruiting more talent. The company’s revenue increased to EUR 27.8 million. Operating profit was EUR 2.8 million.

Docrates Cancer Center becomes part of Mehiläinen Group. The strong development of Docrates' operations and the provision of high-quality cancer treatments to both Finnish and international customers will continue going forward. The transaction requires the approval of the competition authorities in order to take place.

Every element has been thoughtfully designed, keeping in mind the unique needs and experiences of both patients and staff.

Not all risk factors for colore**al cancer are known exactly, but both environmental factors and heredity are known to influence the development of cancer. The risk of disease is affected by, for example, age, low-fiber, high-fat and protein-rich diet, overweight, lack of exercise, long-term inflammatory bowel disease, and previous polyps in the digestive system.

– It does matter what we eat. According to research data, abundant use of vegetables and fruits and eating fiber-rich food reduces the risk of colon and re**al cancer. Dairy products and fish also seem to have a protective effect, while red meat, alcohol and processed meat products increase the risk of getting sick. However, it is good to remember that no matter how healthy a life you live, you can still get cancer. Chance and genes decide a lot, says Tuomo Alanko, specialist in oncology at Docrates Cancer Center.

Docrates Cancer Center has been treating Finnish and international patients in Helsinki for more than 15 years. Especially the number of our Norwegian patients increased in 2023; more than 50 Norwegian cancer patients visited Docrates for appointments, examinations and treatments. The majority of the them had metastatic prostate cancer.

Customer feedback from our international patients emphasizes the comfort of the hospital and the active, service-oriented and unique individual treatment experience.

In 2023, the number of Norwegian patients, in particular, increased. More than 50 Norwegian cancer patients visited Docrates for appointments, tests and treatment. More than 80% of the patients had metastatic prostate cancer. Read more >
