🎤 Meet our speaker: Teppo Särkämö, Professor of Neuropsychology

Teppo Särkämö is a Professor of Neuropsychology at the University of Helsinki, a Senior Research Fellow at the Cognitive Brain Research Unit (CBRU), and Vice‑Director of the Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body and Brain (MMBB).

His research focuses on the clinical and cognitive neuroscience of music, especially exploring the psychological and neural mechanisms underlying the impairment and preservation of music cognition in ageing and ageing-related neurological disorders (e.g., stroke, aphasia, dementia) and determining the efficacy and mechanisms of music-based rehabilitation in these clinical populations as well as in healthy aging.

We’re delighted to have him share his expertise on efficacy and neural mechanisms of music in ageing-related neurological disorders. ✨

This is Helsinki calling!

Did you know the capital of Finland has more than 300 islands?

A big part of Helsinki’s area lies on islands in the Baltic Sea. This makes the city surprisingly maritime and nature-oriented — perfect for island hopping and enjoying a picnic at places like Suomenlinna or other nearby islands.
