NW500 Clinical Case Images: Rhegmatogenous RD

In this case, retinal imaging with the NW500 was used to identify a chronic temporal retinal detachment (RD), characterised by a sharp demarcation line and superior temporal atrophy, discovered incidentally during the examination.

The patient, who maintained visual acuity of 1.0 in both eyes, presented with floaters in the right eye, associated with migraines with aura, and had a history of a cavernous sinus tumour. This case highlights the value of systematic imaging in evaluating visual disorders, enabling early detection of potentially progressive anomalies.

“I have witnessed time and again how quickly optometrists embrace technology that promises to improve patient care and how they become the bridge between innovation and adoption.”

Recently, the head of THINC EMEA, Krysten Williams, spoke to The Optician about the valuable role early adopters play in tech innovation. The early adopters invest, validate and refine new technologies in real-world practice, reshaping expectations and improving the standard of patient care. Reflecting on her career in eye care, she recalls the early adopters who were responsible for establishing OCT as the new standard in clinical care. Williams also looks ahead to the opportunity AI presents to the industry, with early adopters proving how this opportunity has the potential to drive meaningful change in standards, education and referral pathways, all of which ultimately lead to better outcomes for patients.
