Read this beautiful story from one of our visitors about their warm visit to us!
âGreetings, sauna! Greetings, löyly! If thereâs still a sauna spirit watching over a sauna today, it must surely be at the Sipoonjoki Heritage Sauna.
We booked a private post-session for our group at this smoke sauna, which has been built into the earth like a cave by the Sipoo River. To reach the sauna, you follow a forest path that passes by a firepit. In front of the sauna, youâll also find a hot and cold plunge pool.
Our eyes lingered outside for a moment as we stepped from the bright midsummer light into the darkness of the sauna. Inside, we were greeted by pitch-black walls, with just a couple of candles softly illuminating the benches.
The löyly water smelled of arctic bramble and mint. We were instructed not to throw the water onto the stove, but to pour it slowly instead. The fragrant heat spread gently to the upper benches, occasionally making bathers bow their backs, and it didnât loosen its grip right away.
Then we stepped out of the darkness into the bright summer evening and dipped into the cold pool after the sauna â a perfect combination.
The Sipoonjoki Heritage Sauna is heated every day, year-round. You can visit during public sauna sessions, book a private sauna, or arrange a post-session like this with your group. Sauna rituals, peat treatments, and herbal whisk treatments are also available.
One day, I want to experience this cave sauna during the dark season â I can only imagine how magical it must feel then.â
