Five days of warm learning and shared time by the löyly are now behind us! đŸ”„đŸŒż

The wonderful crew from Lapland, VĂ€ki Wellness, joined us here in Sipoon River Valley for training. And what an absolutely amazing week it was. The foundation for guiding traditional sauna rituals is now built!

We provide tailored sauna healer training for individuals, work communities, and groups of friends alike. If the sauna is an important part of what you do, we’ll help you deepen its meaning. đŸ™đŸ»

New episode of the Spirit of Sauna podcast is out! đŸŽ™ïž

In this episode, Laura and Otto explore meditation as something quietly familiar. For many older Finns, the sauna has long been a meditative practice. It was never called meditation, yet that’s what it was, and still is.

Meditation begins the moment we let go. Rather than seeking control, it’s about softening. It’s about allowing the mind to settle, the breath to deepen, and, in the sauna, letting the löyly unfold into a deep and spacious experience.

We talk about why the sauna is an ideal place for this kind of release. Its calming heat, gentle rhythm, and quiet atmosphere invite inwardness. The same presence can be found in nature: in forests, by lakes, and in the silence of a winter evening.

We also reflect on what is lost when the sauna turns into a space of noise and distraction. When it becomes just a party venue, something essential is forgotten. What happens when we lose the ritual, the presence, the stillness?

Seasonal Saunotus ceremonies

Our monthly ceremonies help you align with the season at hand.

The month of August is about the last flames of summer heat, Vanhan akkain kesÀ. The ground is now fertile to receive the seeds of the autumn plowing and sowing.

August opens the season of harvest.

In the sauna rituals heater and mugwort invite us to slow down and reap what we have sown.

Book your spot for the ritual on August 22nd: www.saunotus.fi -> Perinnesaunotusillat

Three days of sauna ritual training with the amazing crew from The Hot Box Sauna. Full immersion, plenty of sweat, deep learning, and more than a few savage jokes along the way 😄

We explored the heart of Finnish sauna tradition: herbal whisks, ancient songs and runes, and the old stories carried in the löyly.

Honoured to witness this tradition finding new ground across the sea đŸ™đŸ»

“The first 200 times were just practice.”

That’s how Finland’s biggest newspaper titled their feature on how we heat our smoke sauna. And they weren’t wrong!

When Iltalehti came to visit, we walked them through the whole process: carrying out the benches to keep them clean from soot, stacking the firewood just right, and softly chanting old sauna spells while lighting the fire. Our earth-sheltered, stone-vaulted sauna needs a special rhythm to awaken, and you only learn it by doing it again and again.

They also spent time with our sauna healer Laura, who crafts traditional whisks from birch, maple, spruce, and many other trees and plants. In the article, she shares how saunotus, our healing treatments and rituals, are a living expression of ancient Baltic-Finnic tradition.

Read this beautiful story from one of our visitors about their warm visit to us!

“Greetings, sauna! Greetings, löyly! If there’s still a sauna spirit watching over a sauna today, it must surely be at the Sipoonjoki Heritage Sauna.

We booked a private post-session for our group at this smoke sauna, which has been built into the earth like a cave by the Sipoo River. To reach the sauna, you follow a forest path that passes by a firepit. In front of the sauna, you’ll also find a hot and cold plunge pool.

Our eyes lingered outside for a moment as we stepped from the bright midsummer light into the darkness of the sauna. Inside, we were greeted by pitch-black walls, with just a couple of candles softly illuminating the benches.

The löyly water smelled of arctic bramble and mint. We were instructed not to throw the water onto the stove, but to pour it slowly instead. The fragrant heat spread gently to the upper benches, occasionally making bathers bow their backs, and it didn’t loosen its grip right away.

Then we stepped out of the darkness into the bright summer evening and dipped into the cold pool after the sauna — a perfect combination.

The Sipoonjoki Heritage Sauna is heated every day, year-round. You can visit during public sauna sessions, book a private sauna, or arrange a post-session like this with your group. Sauna rituals, peat treatments, and herbal whisk treatments are also available.

One day, I want to experience this cave sauna during the dark season — I can only imagine how magical it must feel then.”
