The childbirth was so short that Eeva couldn’t capture it but caught the birth of the placenta and the immediate postpartum.
I received the pictures a few days ago and I’m still relishing them. I rediscover this precious moment through Eeva’s lens.
Thank you ❤️

Postpartum love. Thanks to all participants of my recovery. Thanks for warming my heart and my belly. Food is my love language. Thanks for the flowers, meals and grocery deliveries. Thanks for making my life easier. 🙏

I didn’t take pictures of all the delicious dishes, I was too hungry to focus but it was a blast. Nutritious soups, bread, fresh strawberry icecream, fruit salads, grilled veggies… All nice Summer delicacies.

Rosalia and Lulu had organised a meal train for me. This is a great tool. If you know new parents cook for them or order food for them. It not only nourishes them but it also saves them time and energy. And it shows love. ❤️

My breastfeeding beginnings. Feeding this third baby was harder than planned. We know it is the most natural way but it’s not always the smoothest one. There might be bumps on the way, small bumps and mountains, for the beginners as well as for the veterans.

I got a mastitis about right when my milk came in, on the third day, when I was called to visit the hospital for a pediatrician visit and a lab test. One of the worst days in my baby’s life. I’ll get back to this later.
Milk ducts were obstructed, I had a red mark on the breast. This was my friend who noticed it since I was too tired or disturbed to see it myself.

It was painful, frustrating, discouraging, and raging. I thought I knew better but challenges always invite themselves to humble you.

So there I was in a funnel, I mean a tunnel, of despair, calling for help and trying every remedy.
Massage, cold pack, ibuprofen, lecithin, air, lanoline, water, love, pump, positive affirmations, syringe, silver shells… Is it going to work out? Should I give up? When to give up? Should I insist? Antibiotics?

Finally, I insisted, my breastfeeding consultant visited a few times. Many times. She manually drained/unlocked/saved my left breast and little by little (it felt like an eternity to me) the situation improved.
The osteopathic treatments helped my baby too.
The love and support of my dear ones too.
And my stubborn mind, what can I do? 😅

I could have chosen formula, bottle-feeding, by the way. There were options. But with my experience and family situation I thought nursing was the “easiest” option, practically, physically and mentally.

This post just to say doulas can struggle too, nobody is immune to difficulties, each experience is unique, let’s support each other.

Thanks to lactation consultants, osteopaths and friends.
Thanks especially to .lahtinen and my Bliss friends for the practical and/or mental support in these early challenging days. 🙏

Physiotherapy and pelvic floor physiotherapy. So important during pregnancy but also at any point of life! We are taught so bad habits as kids and growing up we disconnect from our physiological needs to suit conveniences.
It is never too late to reclaim a responsive pelvic floor and to reset our body and teach it good habits, good reflexes, mobility and strength.
I had the chance to meet great physio professionals, in the public and in the private.
I agree it’s complicated to get refered to a physiotherapist in the public. My advice would be to request a visit during pregnancy, evaluate the needs and plan another visit (and as many as necessary) after birth. Insist if you have to!
I was very lucky to meet this physiotherapist in the public side, Heli Ala-Pantti, both very professionnal and friendly. ☺️🙏

Have you seen a professionnal to restore your pelvic floor after birth?

My baby had a bit of asymmetry and tensions at birth, which made it a bit difficult to nurse on one side. Another pro came to the rescue, Noora , the Fantômette of the osteopaths. I say this because she came to support us at home very quickly, flying on her bike. ☺️
Thank you very much, Noora! 🦸‍♀️

Motherhood Talks, created by , the occasion to get out of the house and meet new people. My baby found a friend.
The theme of the day was ”self-care during postpartum”.
What does self-care mean to you, how do you cultivate it? The conversation led to the big topic of ”setting up boundaries”.
Come next Wednesday at 12, there is free coffee and friendly faces. You can come if your baby is younger than 1 year. ☺️

All went pretty fast. I gave birth standing above the pool because we hadn’t had time to fill it. The birth happened before the whole birthing team was complete and the cord was so short that I had to get very flexible to kiss my baby. 😅 It was both beautiful and comic.
Here a few stolen shots from this very special day.
Pics by .doula and myself.
More photos to come soon. As you see, one of my dear photographer friends managed to pop up just after the birth of the baby, between photoshoots. ☺️
