Nasinu Town Council, in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Suva Fiji, All Nations Christian Fellowship, and supported by the Fiji Police, joined hands early this morning for a clean-up campaign in Narere, which began at 6:00am despite rainy weather conditions.

The strong turnout and determination of volunteers demonstrated a shared commitment to building cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

Special Administrator Salesh Kumar was also on the ground, working alongside volunteers and lending his support to efforts aimed at improving the environment. He emphasised that keeping Nasinu clean is a shared responsibility.

“Council cannot do it alone. We need the active support of residents, businesses, community groups, and every individual to keep Nasinu clean,” he said.

A large portion of the rubbish collected was found to have been carelessly discarded. Nasinu Town Council urges everyone to show greater respect for the environment by disposing of waste responsibly and taking pride in keeping our surroundings clean.
Sharing his message with the community, Special Administrator Salesh Kumar stated:

“A clean town begins with responsible people. Let us all do our part by using bins, keeping our streets litter-free, and working together to protect the environment for our children and future generations.”

Nasinu Town Council extends its sincere appreciation to all volunteers and partner organisations who took part in this clean-up initiative, and a special thank you to the Fiji Police for their support.

Together, we can create a better Narere and a cleaner Nasinu for all.

This morning marks an important milestone for something big in Nasinu. The Nasinu Town Council, in partnership with the Fiji Police Force, has officially begun the installation of fully solar‑powered smart CCTV surveillance posts across key areas in Nasinu. This initiative reflects the Council’s continued commitment to community safety, environmental protection, and the wellbeing of our residents.

We sincerely thank the residents who have agreed to have these CCTV posts installed on their properties. Your cooperation and trust demonstrate true community partnership and play a critical role in helping us protect Nasinu for today and the future.

These CCTV cameras will assist the Council in monitoring illegal dumping, while also supporting our Police in monitoring illegal activities, unsafe shortcuts, and suspicious movements throughout the Nasinu area. With the rise in drug‑related activities, robbery, sexual offences, and other crimes, this system will greatly assist Police in monitoring activity and enhancing crime prevention efforts across our wards.

This is not a normal CCTV system. The cameras installed are fully solar‑powered and off‑grid, meaning they do not rely on mains electricity. They are equipped with high‑capacity batteries and intelligent power‑management systems, allowing them to operate continuously during cloudy or rainy weather without interruption.

The system is built to withstand harsh conditions. The cameras are weatherproof and cyclone‑resistant, designed to operate reliably during strong winds, heavy rain, and extreme weather. Even during extended periods of rain, the battery system allows the cameras to continue operating for several days without sunlight, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring and community protection.

These smart cameras are powered by advanced AI technology. They can intelligently detect and classify human and vehicle movements, capture vehicle number plates, and support tracking of vehicle movements across wards when used by authorised Council officers and Police. This capability significantly strengthens investigations, improves response time, and supports crime prevention and enforcement.

The system also includes intelligent features such as intrusion detection, line‑crossing detection, motion detection, object‑left alerts, and tamper detection, allowing authorities to focus on genuine incidents rather than reviewing unnecessary footage. Secure 4G connectivity and remote access enable authorised officers to view footage in real time or review recorded events as required.

This technology will make it easier for the Council to monitor activities in every ward, improve operational efficiency, and support Police in safeguarding our communities. It forms a key part of Nasinu Town Council’s journey toward becoming a smart, resilient, and safer municipality.

At Nasinu Town Council, we value our people. This initiative demonstrates how seriously we take community safety, wellbeing, and trust. A safe Nasinu can only be achieved through strong partnerships between the Council, the Police, and our residents.

This is only the beginning. Together, we are building a cleaner, smarter, and safer Nasinu for all.

Vinaka vakalevu, Nasinu, for standing with us.

This morning our teams are out in full force across Nasinu, working tirelessly on green waste collection along Omkar Road and carrying out grass cutting works in the Nadawa area. These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our streets clean, safe, and presentable for everyone who lives, works, and travels through our community.

Green waste collection and grass cutting play a very important role in maintaining a healthy and clean environment. Regular grass cutting improves visibility for road users, reduces pest breeding areas, and helps prevent drainage blockages that can lead to flooding. At the same time, proper collection and disposal of green waste keeps our surroundings tidy, discourages illegal dumping, and supports a healthier environment for families and children.

We kindly ask our community to help us help you. Keeping Nasinu clean is a shared responsibility, and teamwork between the Council and our residents makes everything easier and more effective. With the community on board, we can eliminate illegal dumping and create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for everyone.

The Council cannot do it alone, but we remain committed and are working tirelessly every day to keep Nasinu clean. Together, through cooperation and shared responsibility, we can look after our town and be proud of the environment we live in. Vinaka vakalevu for your continued support.

Yesterday marked a major milestone for the vendors of Laqere Market!

After 2 months of dedication, form filling, and a full day of training, the hard work has finally started to bear fruit. More than 40 active market vendors have officially taken a big step forward in their journey towards empowerment and sustainability.

The Director for Co‑operatives, Mr. Iosefo Koroidimuri, officially handed over the certificates to members of the
Laqere iTaukei Vendor Cooperative Taxi & Tours, in the presence of the Chairman and CEO, with SA Tuiono witnessing this important occasion.

We were also honoured to have Mr. Eroni from LTA join us, as LTA has officially reopened taxi permits for both rural and town areas, creating new opportunities for our cooperative members.

Following this milestone, vendors will now undergo a 5‑day intensive training on cooperative operations, governance, financial literacy, and compliance key requirements to ensure cooperatives in Fiji remain strong, transparent, and sustainable for the long term.

This achievement would not have been possible without the strong vision, ideas, and continuous support provided. A heartfelt vinaka vakalevu to the Council and the Chairman for their guidance, encouragement, and assistance rendered to our vendors throughout this journey.

Together, we are building stronger livelihoods, empowering communities, and setting a solid foundation for cooperative success in Laqere.

Vinaka vakalevu to everyone involved!

Upcoming Geotechnical Investigation and Topographical Survey Work

Valelevu Grounds & Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital
April 2026

The Governments of Fiji and Australia are working in partnership to deliver the Master Plan for a new National Referral Hospital, a major national project aimed at strengthening Fiji’s health infrastructure for the future. The Master Plan is being developed in multiple stages, with Stages 1 and 2 already completed, including the Clinical Services Plan and the Hospital Redevelopment Options Analysis (ROA). Following the assessment of seven potential sites, the Cabinet approved Valelevu Grounds in December 2025 to proceed to the next stages of master planning.

In parallel, the World Bank is supporting the construction of a new Radiotherapy Centre at a separate site within the Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital precinct. With approval from the Government of Fiji, preliminary site investigations will now be undertaken at both Valelevu Grounds and the CWM Hospital precinct to support future planning and design.

During April 2026, authorised technical teams will be on site to carry out geotechnical investigations and topographical survey works. These activities will include the drilling of small-diameter boreholes, excavation of test pits, and full site rehabilitation upon completion, with all affected areas restored to their original condition. These investigations are essential to better understand ground conditions and environmental constraints, ensuring the safe and appropriate design of future health facilities. Proposed investigation locations are outlined in the attached maps.

All works will be conducted during normal working hours and are temporary in nature. Members of the public may notice temporary noise and minor vibrations from drilling equipment, as well as the presence of machinery and technical crews on site. Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience to nearby residents, businesses, and facility users, and all contractors will adhere to strict safety and environmental protocols.

There is no expected disruption to traffic flow or utility services during the investigation period. Members of the public are kindly requested to observe all on-site signage and follow instructions provided by authorised personnel to ensure everyone’s safety.

For further information or queries regarding these works, please contact the Project Lead:
Judy Fong Sovea, Senior Project Manager

We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation as these important preliminary works are carried out in support of future national health infrastructure development.
