Yesterday, our Chairman Mr. Felix Magnus met with all Heads of Schools in Nasinu to discuss how we can collaborate and support each other to ease the load on educators. Through the Hands Across Nasinu initiative and strong partnerships with Inter-Agency teams, we are building trust and working closely with communities to address critical issues such as drug abuse, crime, and peer pressure among youths and students.

These activities are already making a positive impact by changing behaviours for the better, creating safer environments for learning, and helping teachers focus on education rather than discipline. With rising concerns about students verbally or physically abusing teachers, our Chairman reaffirmed:
“Whatever the schools need, we are here to help. Our main priority is the wellbeing of our students.”

During the meeting, the Heads of Schools also updated us on some of the current issues they are facing. Many of these challenges have already been rectified and dealt with, while others that were beyond our control have been raised to the relevant authorities for urgent attention and resolution. This collaborative approach ensures that no issue is left unattended and that schools receive the full support they need.

Throughout this year, the Council, Fiji Police, and Inter-Agency teams have worked tirelessly to strengthen community ties and improve safety. We have conducted community outreach programmes, including awareness campaigns in schools and settlements on drug prevention, anti-crime measures, and mental health support.

We have also focused on youth engagement through sports programmes, peer mentoring, and leadership workshops to keep young people positively engaged. In addition, safety initiatives have been implemented in collaboration with Fiji Police, including increased patrols around school zones and educational sessions on law and respect.

Together, we aim to create an environment where our children thrive, our citizens feel safe, and our communities remain strong and happy.

Let’s continue to work hand in hand for the future of Nasinu.

Despite the wet weather, our operations team is out in full force, working tirelessly to keep our community safe and clean.

From clearing blocked drains to cutting overgrown grass and removing waste, these efforts are crucial in preventing flooding and maintaining a healthy environment. These tasks may seem routine, but they play a vital role in reducing hazards, improving drainage flow, and ensuring our neighbourhoods remain accessible and safe during heavy rains.

We need to work together as a community to ensure a safe and healthy environment. How we dispose of our rubbish matters—please make sure waste is placed in the right areas and not in drains or waterways. Blocked drains can lead to flooding, property damage, and health risks, so let’s all do our part to keep them clear.

We thank our hardworking team for their commitment and resilience in serving the community, rain or shine. Together, we can create a cleaner, safer, and stronger community for everyone.

This morning, the Council team led by Chairman Mr Felix Magnus met with Police Commissioner Mr Rusiate Tudravu to discuss how we can further improve services for our community and make Nasinu a safer place for all residents.

The discussion focused on:

Building stronger collaboration between the Council and Fiji Police.

Continuing community awareness programmes to combat drugs, crime, and other issues raised by residents.

Strengthening community policing, recognising the hard work officers do on the ground every day.

We acknowledged the important work already done through joint initiatives such as community outreach and awareness campaigns. These efforts have been vital in creating safer neighbourhoods and empowering residents to take an active role in crime prevention.

Looking ahead, the Council is committed to supporting Fiji Police through upcoming projects, including:

Enhanced street lighting in key areas to improve visibility and deter crime.

Installation of CCTV cameras across strategic locations for better monitoring.

Renovation of all Police Posts in the Nasinu area to provide better facilities for officers and the community.

Community engagement programmes to strengthen trust and cooperation.

Digital platforms for faster reporting and response to community concerns.

Together, we are working towards a safer, stronger Nasinu. Your support and participation are key—let’s keep building a community where everyone feels secure.

Today, the Nasinu Town Council, together with the Fiji Police and led by our Chairman, carried out a joint inspection to assess the damage caused by yesterday’s heavy downpour. The rain damaged PVC pipes that supply water to parts of our community, and landslides have added further challenges that need urgent attention.

Our Depot Team immediately assisted the Batiniwai Settlement by fixing broken pipeline connections to restore water supply. A full assessment will follow to address landslide-related damages and ensure stronger systems that can withstand future disasters. This proactive approach is part of our commitment to building resilience and safeguarding essential services for our residents.

Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority. Working hand-in-hand with Fiji Police demonstrates our dedication to protecting lives and ensuring that communities receive the support they need during times of crisis. Together, we are creating solutions that will help prevent similar issues in the future.

To other areas in Nasinu facing similar problems, please be assured that our team will be coming around soon to assess and assist. We thank the Fiji Police for their continued readiness to help and support our efforts in keeping our communities safe.

Our operations team continues to work tirelessly across the wards, clearing rubbish, cleaning drains, and restoring order to our surroundings. This effort is more than just tidying up it’s about creating a healthier, safer, and more vibrant community for everyone.

The work our team does is vital for several reasons. First, it protects public health by removing waste that can attract pests and spread disease. Second, clearing drains helps prevent flooding during heavy rains, safeguarding homes and roads. Third, clean surroundings foster community pride and encourage residents to care for their environment. Additionally, removing debris reduces hazards and accidents, while proper waste disposal protects our soil and waterways from pollution.

A big vinaka vakalevu to our dedicated team for their commitment and hard work under the sun. Let’s all do our part dispose of waste responsibly and keep our neighbourhoods clean.
