Yesterday, our Chairman Mr. Felix Magnus met with all Heads of Schools in Nasinu to discuss how we can collaborate and support each other to ease the load on educators. Through the Hands Across Nasinu initiative and strong partnerships with Inter-Agency teams, we are building trust and working closely with communities to address critical issues such as drug abuse, crime, and peer pressure among youths and students.
These activities are already making a positive impact by changing behaviours for the better, creating safer environments for learning, and helping teachers focus on education rather than discipline. With rising concerns about students verbally or physically abusing teachers, our Chairman reaffirmed:
“Whatever the schools need, we are here to help. Our main priority is the wellbeing of our students.”
During the meeting, the Heads of Schools also updated us on some of the current issues they are facing. Many of these challenges have already been rectified and dealt with, while others that were beyond our control have been raised to the relevant authorities for urgent attention and resolution. This collaborative approach ensures that no issue is left unattended and that schools receive the full support they need.
Throughout this year, the Council, Fiji Police, and Inter-Agency teams have worked tirelessly to strengthen community ties and improve safety. We have conducted community outreach programmes, including awareness campaigns in schools and settlements on drug prevention, anti-crime measures, and mental health support.
We have also focused on youth engagement through sports programmes, peer mentoring, and leadership workshops to keep young people positively engaged. In addition, safety initiatives have been implemented in collaboration with Fiji Police, including increased patrols around school zones and educational sessions on law and respect.
Together, we aim to create an environment where our children thrive, our citizens feel safe, and our communities remain strong and happy.
Let’s continue to work hand in hand for the future of Nasinu.
