Join Our Team! We are looking for a new CSO (Customer Service Officer) for our Sigatoka unit from July 2025, to replace Ms Raijieli Rokovaka who has decided to pursue a new chapter and purpose in life (and we’re very excited for her and fully support her!).

The CSO is responsible for ensuring that patients from the Sigatoka area are able to get timely appointments and reviews with our team of doctors, including facilitating day observations or overnight admissions when required.

July also marks the resumption of in person clinics by Specialist Nephrologist, Dr Amrish Krishnan, following his completion of advanced training in Australia.

Our "trial" run last week had no technical difficulties - for a change! This web based platform requires no app download and can be set up within seconds. Dr Amrish was registered as a specialist in Fiji in 2015, and has since cared for hundreds of Fijians, and Pacific Islanders, with advanced kidney disease. He believes all people in the Pacific deserve access to better kidney health, and affordable dialysis. He is currently undergoing advanced training in Australia in the area of Interventional Nephrology, which includes angioplasty to poorly functioning arteriovenous fistulas for more effective hemodialysis. Cola Vina’a Nadroga! Let’s make more than a hashtag. This young man, NK*, from Sigatoka, needs to commence dialysis treatment urgently but has been delaying care to avoid the financial burden it will pose on his family. The Kidney Hub Family (Olosara) will be hosting a Lovo/BBQ Fundraiser event for him on Saturday 3pm, 12 October 2024 ($10 Per serve of BBQ, $15 per serve of Lovo). Based on national statistics about 60 people in the Nadroga-Navosa area would be developing complete kidney failure every year, medically referred to as ESKD (End Stage Kidney Disease). We are struggling to find them, and they are struggling to find us. Cola Sigatoka. To our dear dialysis patients from the Sigatoka area, water quality has affected our dialysis start date, and we're trying to determine the source of the high sediment levels and bacterial particle count and attend to this before hemodialysis can be delivered safely. Over the next week we will be installing additional filters and UV systems to improve water quality for dialysis. Some useful facts about water:
1. Only 1% of the entire world's water is accessible for human needs
2. 60-70% of your body weight is made up of water
3. One hemodialysis session uses up to 200L of water, which is purified enough to "interact" with the human body
4. Drinking water should have a Heterotrophic plate count < 500CFU/mL

Thank you Sigatoka for opening your doors to our team. We have had yet another successful free NCD screening session, and again identified people with early signs of kidney damage. Did you know that on many occasions before the blood Creatinine level goes up (and kidney function falls) the kidneys start to leak protein in the urine. Is your urine test normal?

Cola Vina'a. This week we were out in the community doing free NCD screening. Health isn't just the mere absence of illness, it is the presence and promotion of wellness. If you have risk factors for Diabetes, Hypertension and Kidney Disease, it's better to find out early. Thank you to those who attended the screening, and to all those who lent a helping hand.
