A meaningful step forward for future healthcare leaders 🌿

Five Year 6 medical students from FNU had the opportunity to attend the West Mini Conference, “Make it Happen- Results over Rhetoric”, hosted by the Fiji Medical Association. The experience offered valuable insights into real-world medical practice, public health challenges, and the importance of collaborative leadership. Our students not only learned from seasoned professionals but also contributed their perspectives to ongoing discussions shaping healthcare in Fiji.

Opportunities like this highlight the importance of stepping beyond the classroom. We strongly encourage fellow medical students to engage in future conferences, register under the association after graduation to access member benefits, and actively build connections with key stakeholders in the field.

Growth in medicine doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens through shared knowledge, mentorship, and meaningful networking. 🌍

“Community love for mothers to be"

MBBS Year 5 obstetrics and gynaecology students, Marzana, Raijieli and Nivandita organised a sanitary pad drive that supports maternal health. During their time in labor ward, they noticed some mothers did not have pads to use during and after labor, which is essential for hygiene and comfort, which were also not freely available in the hospital. This drive aimed at providing mother with free sanitary pads if they needed them. The students successfully managed to collect and donate 1,127 individual pads to the CWMH labour ward. The students extend their greatest gratitude to everyone who supported this initiative.

International Day of Women in Diplomacy.

Today, we celebrate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, a day to honour and acknowledge the remarkable contributions of women diplomats around the world. Women in diplomacy have played an essential role in building bridges, promoting peace, advancing gender equality, and shaping a fairer, more inclusive global community.

At FNUSA, we applaud all women who break barriers, lead with courage, and inspire change through their work in diplomacy. We recognize the ongoing need to support and uplift women in leadership roles across local, national and global stages.

Let us continue to empower more women to step into leadership and diplomatic roles for a balanced and better world.

International Widows Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the challenges faced by widows worldwide and to advocate for the full rights and recognition of widows in society. This day calls global attention to the social stigmas, economic hardships, and legal discrimination many widows endure.

Millions of widows face neglect, poverty, violence, and exclusion simply because they have lost their spouses. Often denied inheritance, land rights, and access to education or employment. International Widows Day is not just a moment for sympathy, civil society, and individuals to protect and empower widows and ensure they live with dignity and equality.

Fiji National University Students’ Association (FNUSA) stands in solidarity with widows around the world. We recognize the silent suffering of countless women who, after the loss of their spouses, face a second tragedy, that of societal abandonment and systemic injustice. Championing the legal rights of widows, advancing their economic independence through empowerment initiatives, engaging community leaders to challenge harmful traditional practices, and providing emotional support and solidarity during their most difficult times.

Let us use this day not only to remember, but to act.

Fiji National University’s Department of Student Support Services joins the global community to raise awareness about the devastating impact of drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking on individuals, families, and communities. This day is dedicated to promoting prevention through education and community support, strengthening international cooperation to combat drug-related crimes, and supporting recovery through treatment and rehabilitation. This year’s theme, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,” reminds us all to say NO to drugs and YES to life. Together, we can build safer, healthier, and drug-free societies.

FNUSA stands firmly with all students and staff in advocating for a drug-free environment, encouraging everyone to make healthy choices, support one another, and contribute to a positive and safe university community.

As we wrap up another busy and productive term, it’s time to take a well-deserved break. The semester break is not just a pause from lectures and assignments,it’s an opportunity to rest, reflect, and recharge.

Use this time wisely:
âś… Rest your mind and body
âś… Reflect on your journey so far
âś… Reconnect with family, friends, and yourself
âś… Refocus on your goals for the coming semester

Remember: "Rest is not a reward it’s part of the process of growth."
Come back refreshed, re-energized, and ready to take on new challenges.
