Special Olympics Fiji Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community. Special Olympics Fiji is recognized as a Founding Committee.

Special Olympics is a global organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities working with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and coaches each year. Since the establishment of Special Olympics in 1968, the number of people with and without intellectual disabilities who are involved with the organization has been growing, but the unmet need to reach more people with intellectual di

sabilities is staggering. A Founding Committee is a group of people who join together and apply to Special Olympics International for recognition and the right to use the name "Special Olympics" with the ultimate goal of being accredited as a Program. It’s at the local level--right here--where interested volunteers meet the athletes. That’s where the perceptions start to change and where the miracle of transformation takes place. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

The Special Olympics Netball and Football Unified Tournament was more than just sports—it was about community, inclusion, and wellbeing.

We were honored to have the Ministry of Health and Diabetes Fiji join us, ensuring that all children participants and their families received vital health checks. Special Olympics Fiji is truly grateful for the presence and support of the incredible health team—doctors, nurses, and health inspectors—who made this possible.

This meaningful initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Fiji National Sports Commission, whose commitment to grassroots development and inclusive programs continues to make a difference across the country.

Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who made this event a success!

A Voice of Gratitude from the Heart of Inclusion

Meet Verenaisi Waqalevu from Waitovo Village, Levuka, Ovalau — an autistic athletes currently enrolled at the Fiji Vocational Training Center, one of the Special Schools in the Central Division.

Today, Verenaisi moved hearts as she delivered the Vote of Thanks following the Special Olympics Fiji Unified Netball and Soccer Tournament. Her courage, presence, and powerful words were a beautiful reminder of what true inclusion looks like.

Moments like these are why we do what we do — creating platforms where every voice is heard and every athlete is celebrated.

Vinaka Verenaisi, you made your community proud!
